Principal's Report
Congratulations
Mr Brent Plowright
I would like to congratulate our Assistant Principal Brent Plowright for obtaining a 6-month secondment to the Department of Education's Policy and Advisory Unit.
As a Senior Advisor, Brent will be supporting school leaders with queries relating to operational policy and compliance matters, ensuring principals and other schools leaders receive the right advice from the right people.
Our loss is the departments gain. Thankfully this secondment is only for the next 6 months.
Respectful Relationships – Help-Seeking
Next week, for our Respectful Relationships Curriculum, our Prep-Year 6 students have discussed ‘Help-Seeking behaviours’.
It is important that our children develop new and trusted relationships with adults and children at school.
Knowing who to go to for help and advice, and what help to ask for can be confusing and stressful. Encouraging and fostering help-seeking behaviours is one way to improve mental health and wellbeing.
It is important to work with students to make sure they are aware about help-seeking avenues and confident to seek help from an appropriate source when needed.
Your child may bring home one of the below sheets home, which you may wish to discuss further.
World Ocean Day
At BNPS, we are thrilled to be a part of the ‘I Sea, I Care’ Program which fosters a care for the marine environment and teaches us how to protect it.
Our Year 6 Marine Ambassadors participating in the program are taking action by hosting a whole school World Ocean Day celebration on 8 June.
As well as activities for each year level on the day, we are celebrating the event by wearing a touch of blue and asking for a gold coin donation which will be used to fund a sustainable project in the school, run by our Year 6 sustainability captains. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to the I Sea I Care Dolphin Research Institute.
As a Bayside school, we are fortunate to live so close to the beach and enjoy the pleasures coastal living brings! We look forward to celebrating this day as a school community.
Resilience Profile Workshop for Parents
(Online) on Tuesday 13 June 6:30pm to 7:30pm AEST.
As part of The Resilience Project program students are involved in the Resilient Youth Survey each year. The survey provides a comprehensive wellbeing profile of students in each year level across the school.
As a school we are always looking at ways we can further support the wellbeing of our students and work in partnership with you, the parents, to support the mental health of your children.
The Resilience Project will be taking our staff through some school specific data from the survey and has kindly offered to deliver an evening presentation to you.
The session will look at some key results from the student survey and cover themes specific to the home environment for your children such as connection, self-worth, device use, sleep and anxiety. The Resilience Project will offer practical strategies for you as parents to support the mental health of your families in the home.
Accessing the webinar - Parents and carers to register for the webinar, registrants will then receive the link to join the session https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0rcO2vqzMrHdRrAdY7NY32IgvnJODAdSGk

Local Excursion / Walk / First Aid Consent Form
Last week you received a notification on your Compass homepage that there is a course confirmation and / or school payment available for completion.
The purpose of this form is simply to obtain parent consent for local excursions/walks during 2023. This form does NOT provide consent for excursions/walks that go beyond the local area. Local excursions are excursions/walks to locations within walking distance of the school and do not involve ‘Adventure Activities’.
Local excursions that your child may participate in throughout 2023 could include:
- Inter-school sport – students may walk to a local oval to compete against another school
- Students may walk to a local postal box to post letters to their buddies
This is a requirement of the Department of Education and will need to be completed yearly. We appreciate you help in this matter.
Year 5 'How the World Works' Showcase of Learning
The Year 5 students and staff would like to invite the Year 5 parents to their 2023 PYP Exhibition in the SLC on Tuesday 6 June from 2.30pm.
Kind regards
Sherril Duffy
