Dr Penny Ludicke

Dear Marian Catholic College Parents/Carers and Community,

As always within the last ten days of the College much has happened. The acknowledgements listed below include only highlights and snapshots from the last few days, but these showcase an outstanding range of student and staff achievements and community experiences.

Events and Acknowledgements: CABARET

Congratulations to outstanding Director Matt Segrave and Producer Belinda Aventi of Cabaret and to all students, staff members and volunteers involved in this brilliant cross disciplinary production. Congratulations also must include CAPA, TAS and Hospitality teams and leaders, grounds, support and administrative teams, all of whom volunteered countless hours towards preparing and presenting this phenomenal event.

My sincere thanks and appreciation for your exuberant, skilful and highly polished performances, service and presentations-it was a privilege to experience. To our community of business and family sponsors, MCC supporters and family and friends-our thanks on behalf of Marian Catholic College to all of you for your support. Cabaret is truly a community event-showcasing Marian and Griffith at its very best.

Significant Dates:

Blessing and Opening Ceremony

On Friday May 26th, Marian Catholic College will host a formal Blessing and Opening of the new McCauley TAS Centre and Marian Administration Centre at 10 am. The ceremony will be a gathering of former principals and leaders, CEDWW Director, Dr Andrew Watson and other Catholic Education Leaders, Parish religious leaders, as well as the architects, project managers and builders associated with this important project. Most Reverend Bishop Mark Edwards OMI- Bishop of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga  will bless the building, with Senator Deborah O’Neill unveiling the plaque. Also involved in supporting this ceremony will be our MCC Student Leaders and Year 11 Hospitality students with music provided by our talented CAPA students. Photographs of this special occasion will be published in the next bulletin and on the MCC Facebook page.

Friday May 26th is also the National Day of Healing-or ‘National Sorry Day’. Included below is information sourced from the Loreto Website for your information.

National Day of Healing (National Sorry Day) on May 26 is a day when Australians remember Indigenous people, the Stolen Generations, forcibly removed from their families as a result of government policies. It is a day when Australians have the opportunity to work together for healing and reconciliation.

National Reconciliation Week, celebrated each year from 27 May – 3 June, follows on from National Sorry Day. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey—the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision on Native Title.

At the heart of these events is the connection to land and, depending on one’s culture, its importance. For Indigenous people, connection to land is vital to survival. It is not just a “lifestyle choice” but “life.”
