CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading the students will be continuing their learning on how to locate language features in narratives 

 


VOCABULARY

Noun: A noun names a person, place, thing or idea.

Adjective: An adjective describes or gives more information about a noun.

Verb: A verb is a word that shows an action or a state of being.

Adverb:  An adverb is a word that describes a verb, adjective or other adverb.  An adverb can tell how, when, where and how much.

Synonym:  A word that has the same meaning as another word (or nearly the same meaning).


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Using the satchel book or another book of your choice, read through the text and go on a treasure hunt to find the nouns and adjectives or the verbs and adverbs.  Ask your child which are their favourite describing words and notice how they make the writing more interesting and precise.  

 

As an extension, ask your child to suggest a synonym for some of these words.
