Careers at MSCW

2023 National Careers Week – Career! It’s more than just a Job.
National Careers Week (NCW) (15 – 21 May) aims to celebrate careers, career development and promote the economic, social and personal benefits of career development.
Everyday decisions and priorities affect career development. Career development is about much more than jobs – it is about how to live your life.
In my role I often come across students (and some parents) questioning the value of school’s contribution to life roles and career pathways. The included Information Sheets might provide some food for thought….
- School: What’s the point?
- Parents as Career supporters

There are some great events occurring this week as part of NCW. As well as a whole host of other resources and info sheets which relate to interviews, planning and maximising career outcomes which are well worth a look. https://careersweek.com.au/resources/

Careers at MSCW – Recent events
Careers in Sport Expo – Friday 17 March
Accompanied by Mrs Elly Martin and Mr Brad Cavalot, 26 keen students from Year 10 to 12 travelled to Carlton College of Sport, located at Carlton’s headquarters IKON Park, to listen to a range of speakers providing valuable insights into pathways and tips for pursuing a career in sport. Speakers included:
Here is Riley Senini’s reflection on the day:
“Today at the Carlton College Sport Expo, I learnt about the different roles and opportunities in the sporting industry and that you are more likely to get a job at the elite level if you have different work experience in more than one area”
New Energy Technology Program
Year 10 students Ben Allsop, Archie Dunn, Annabella Walsh and Jorja McGibney have been participating in the New Energy Technology program coordinated by BBLLLEN and Broadening Horizons. Students are working on real life energy challenges and the MSCW group is working with Brett and Aaron from AusNet Services. Our students also came up with the leading pitch idea for an upcoming youth expo held the day prior to the Energy Conference in Sale on 31 August.
Here is a copy of a recent post on AusNet Services LinkedIn
At AusNet Services we’ve recently had the privilege of working with some of our leaders of tomorrow on the challenges associated with the energy transition, particularly in the Gippsland region.
We are pleased to be a supporter of the Baw Baw and Latrobe Local Learning and Employment Network’s New Energy Technology Program which provides an opportunity for local students from years 8, 9 and 10 to work on real world challenges with industry mentors.
AusNet’s Aaron Dalla-Vecchia and Brett Millsom have been working with a group of year 10 students from Marist Sion College in Warragul on defining and refining their challenge before setting out ways of addressing what lies ahead.
Settling on the team name Mission Transmission, we are excited to see what solutions these great young minds develop over the coming year.
