Visual Arts

In grade 5/6 we are continuing to use the work of Claude Monet. This activity is based on his caricature work which he began when only 15 years old. The process of transferring the image onto craft paper has included tracing, re-tracing on the reverse side, then drawing over the lines a third time in order for the image to appear on the paper placed underneath. Students will now look at adding shading and tone using line work and cross hatching, before finally adding highlights using soft pastel.
In the 1/2 grades the students have completed their dream-like Miro creature, focussing on using the primary colours to add unusual shapes and colours. (He also used a tiny bit of green:)
In Foundation the students have continued their work using Howard Arkley and his suburbia artworks as inspiration for colouring their houses.
This week I haven’t included photos of the 3/4 artworks as it was tricky to capture what it is that the students have achieved. We are continuing our theme of ‘water’ and used the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander story of Tiddalik the frog as a source of inspiration. Students sprayed their page with a mist of water, then layered tissue paper on top, then sprayed with the mist again. The colour from the tissue paper ‘bleeds’ onto the cartridge underneath creating a delicate, watery effect. Stay tuned for upcoming photos!
I’d also like to ask for any donations of used plastic water bottles (not larger than 1.25L), which I hope to use for an upcoming construction task. Thanks in advance!
