GRIP

Our Year Six students were fortunate to attend a Leadership Conference at the Moree Services Club last Wednesday with other schools in the Armidale Diocese. We were fortunate enough to travel with St Francis Xavier Narrabri on the bus to continue building our links between schools leading into Year 7 Transition at St Mary’s Gunnedah.

GRIP Leadership is an independent organisation that exists to train and develop leaders with a special focus on school students and the educational sector. GRIP Leadership programs are fresh, practical and interactive and enjoyed by tens of thousands of students in both secondary and primary schools each year.

GRIP is an acronym for Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity and People.  Some important aspects that was spoken about was the importance of being an “others first leader”.  We need to hear others' opinions and help with the little things.

A take home message was “It’s natural to think of self first but leaders need to shift their thinking to others first”.

When introducing new ideas we learnt we need to:

  1. Write it out in detail
  2. Take it forward slowly
  3. Show that you will carry the load
  4. Make the WHY clear.

Many thanks to the school for covering the cost of registration and travel for our wonderful school leaders to attend.
