Principal’s Message

Mrs Katherine Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week is Catholic Schools Week. This event marks a time to celebrate the achievements of our school community and acknowledge the people dedicated to providing quality learning and a nurturing environment for every student and staff member across our system of schools. The theme for this year is Renew with Hope and speaks to joy, celebration and renewal as we look to the future of Catholic education, not only in our system but across the country.

During Catholic Schools Week, on Thursday 25 May, representatives from schools in the Diocese of Armidale will gather to celebrate Mass and the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards. Here at Sacred Heart, we are very proud to support Mrs Fran Jackson (Nan Fran) as she will be receiving the Diocesan award for her service to the school and the school community. The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards recognise the outstanding contributions from members of our school community such as Nan Fran.

As we head into Week 5, our students have again had opportunities to represent themselves, and Sacred Heart with pride.

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Small Schools Speech and Drama section at the Gunnedah Eisteddfod last week. It takes an incredible amount of bravery to perform in front of an audience and you should be very proud of your performance. We were fortunate enough to come away with a first placing and we thank Miss Morrissey for her time in preparing our students.

Congratulations also to all of our students who participated in both individual and small group events for speech and drama - well done!

This week will see our school participating in the Small Schools Choir section at the Gunnedah Eisteddfod. We thank Sandy Clarke for her continued support and preparation of our choir.

Thank you to Mrs Goddard for her efforts with our cross country team in Barraba. What a wonderful result for our school and thank you to all of the parents who came to support our school and help out on the day.

As of this week all students will need to be in full winter uniform. If you are having any issues with obtaining a winter uniform, please see Ms Traynor in the front office.

We will hold our next PTF meeting on Tuesday 23 May at 5:30pm - all are welcome. We will also be holding our next School Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday 30 May at 5:30pm.

After speaking with all parents involved in the Transition program, we will be postponing transition for Thursday 25 May as the whole school will be involved in the Gunnedah Eisteddfod.  We look forward to seeing you back at school on Thursday 1 June.

Transition for 2024 has commenced and we are very happy to welcome our new Kindergarten students for next year.

If you know of anyone wishing to enrol their child for 2024 and participate in the transition program this year, please let me know. Program details and enrolment forms are available by contacting Ms Traynor in the Office.

If you know of anyone who is intending to enrol at Sacred Heart either in Kindergarten or any other year group for 2023, please encourage them to contact me at school.

Happy birthday to Elsie who turns 8 this Thursday, 25 May.  We hope you have a fabulous day!

Take care,

Kath Baird
