Principal's message

Kylie O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers

This week I am excited to remind you about our Family Mass this Saturday 20th May, at 5:30pm in the Church here at school. As I read on the invitation I was to bring a plate to share following mass, I was reminded of my own childhood. I was born and raised in the country town of West Wyalong in the middle of the wheat, sheep belt of NSW. My family came from a long line of Irish Catholics and attending the Sunday Mass was just a way of life for me and my two sisters. We often helped to serve the tea and scones that followed the Mass and I always felt a great sense of community in my service.

I hope Saturday afternoon can capture that same sense of community as we gather as part of the St Margaret Mary’s family. I look forward to bringing my plate to share but I might stay clear of the West Wyalong specials; pigs in blankets (cold mashed potato rolled in devon) and curried egg sandwiches were always a big hit at Church gatherings back in the day. I must confess I was never fond of either.

This week I have a few important reminders pertaining to the procedures and processes that keep the school running smoothly.

Arriving and Leaving Late

Please ensure if you are arriving late to school, you bring your child to the office to sign in. Class rolls are typically marked by 9.15 am so if your child goes straight to the classroom they may end up marked absent for a day they were actually at school. Similarly if you are collecting children early or just need to speak to your child, please come to the office and request staff to collect them from class. Parents and Carers are not permitted to go to classrooms to collect children even if this has been communicated to the classroom teacher.

School Uniforms

Thank goodness we have located the ties! As the cooler weather is now starting to set in, students are expected to wear their full school uniform including their tie. Remember ties can be purchased for $5 from the office or second hand uniform shop. This is a steal considering the price will most likely quadruple when Yaronga takes over the supply.

Kiss and Go

Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who keep our students safe when alighting vehicles in the morning. Your service to the school community is invaluable. To those using the service in the afternoon, I remind you of the importance of your child being able to strap themselves into their seat belts or car seat restraints.

Before and After School Care - Avoca St Gate

I am pleased to inform those of you that the Avoca St gate causing so much concern should be completed today. Waverley Locksmith is finalising work to secure the gate and it will no longer open unless the SCECS staff release the electronic latch.
