Grade 2/3

Middle of the Term!

It has been great seeing the students back at school, demonstrating the school values and enjoying their time with peers. Students are getting back into the routines and we are getting ready for next year.

On Friday, we had a whole school transition experience, were students had a chance to be with their peers in 2021, interacting with teachers in their future learning environment.

Books we like!

For the rest of our reading unit, we would like students to bring a chapter book/junior novel they enjoy reading so it can be used as a continuous reading tool. If possible, write the name of the students on the book. If the students can not bring a book, they can chose one from our classroom library.

Library

We are in a mission to get our Library full back again! If you have got any books hanging at home that belong to the Library, please bring them to school as soon as possible. There are more than 100 books out in the community and we are hunting them down. Let's help those books get back to their home, the library at Newlands!

NAIDOC Week

We celebrated NAIDOC week during week 6 of this Term. Students had a chance of see, feel and taste result of the harvesting of Murnong plants. We were lucky enough to have Nina (a Grade 3 student parent) and Pascale (a TAFE teacher) to coordinate and allow the students at NPS to be part of the annual cultural celebration ‘Murnong Gathering’ by planting and growing Murnong (Yam Daisy) This years' event was hold online with Elder Uncle Bill Nicholson.

On Wednesday 11th, we celebrated Remembrance day. All school had one minute silence at 11am (on Teams) to reflect and remember those who died or suffered because of war.

We read a Dream Time story and discuss the meaning of NAIDOC to students.

School pick up

Just a reminder that 23 students are to be picked up from the basketball court at 3:15pm. Those with siblings in Prep/1 will wait on the bench with their teachers until 3:30.

Pre-service teacher

Our beloved James will be finishing his placement at Newlands this coming Tuesday. He had a chance to experience our Builders programs, run assessments and interact with our students.

We want to thank him for his time and passion!

Newlands Sunsmart Policy

Our SunSmart policy has been developed to ensure that all students attending our school are protected from skin damage caused by ultra-violet rays from the sun. The wearing of hats, which protect the face, neck, and ears, is compulsory whenever the children are outside during Terms 1 and 4. All students are required to wear school hats that protect their face, neck and ears, i.e. legionnaire, bucket hat. We encourage the use of SPF 30+ broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen when the students are in the playground, on excursions and playing sport.

Handy hint: Make sure sunscreen is put on before school. Teachers will remind students to put on sunscreen before playtime.
