Outstanding Achievements

Our Congratulations to:

The following Year 12 students have also received their offers for their chosen Pathway or Tertiary study.

Joscelyn Edlington has wanted to work with animals since primary school. Last year she started a VET course in Animal Studies to further her knowledge and skills in animal care. She’s finishing her Certificate III in Animal Studies this year as part of her SACE and has been offered a traineeship with a local vet. Congratulations Joscelyn! It’s been so exciting to see God bringing his plan together for your life.

Emily Colebatch has been working towards her chosen career path in Occupational Therapy for the last 3 years. We congratulate her on the conditional offer she has received to study the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Therapy Studies) at Flinders University.

Congratulations on your conditional offer for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Adelaide, Jayteal Stasiuk! Jayteal plans to enter the teaching profession and a Bachelor of Arts is a great starting place; to build knowledge, experience and skills.

Congratulations Taryn Connor on the conditional offer you have received to study the Bachelor of Social Work at Flinders University! This is Taryn’s first preference, and we trust she’ll continue to grow as a life-long learner.

Congratulations Jess Donald on your conditional offer for the Bachelor of Media (Journalism) at the University of Adelaide as well as a conditional offer for the Bachelor of Creative Industries (Writing and Publishing) at Flinders University. It’s been Jess’ dream to study journalism at university since Year 10 when she explored the career in PLP. We know her passion for people’s stories, will make her a brilliant writer.

One of our School Captains, April Sierat has a flair for the creative and dramatic! We congratulate her on the conditional offer she has received to study a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Fashion) at Flinders University and know she’ll continue to bring joy and creativity wherever she studies in the future.

And in Sports news:

James & Quinn have been selected for the SAPSASA state swimming team.

Year 12s Final Chapel Service

The Secondary School were blessed by a final presentation from the Year 12 class before they wrapped up their week with exams and final assignments.

A re-enactment of the story of Job was a highlight along with Jerry's piano solo and a number of worship songs led beautifully by the students.

Adelaide Career’s Expo

On 16 October 2020, the Year 10 students got the opportunity to attend the Adelaide Careers Expo. Many of us had a chance to find out more about our future and the pathways that need to be taken. We enjoyed searching through the pavilion, gaining knowledge about different types of careers and university. We learned about many new resources and different ways to pursue our career.

Year 10 Work Experience

Week 2 this term, the class of Year 10’s took part in Work Experience with the intention to attain information about the field and to hopefully have a solidified opinion on taking part of this career in the future. Each took initiative and independently chose their workplaces. Some made their choice based off their goals and area of career interest, whilst others chose it based on their passion and hobbies. Some of us took part in Child Care, providing support to children of all ages. On the other hand, some of us took part in trades, learning about electricity and construction. The rest of us were involved in computing, hospitality, and real estate.

I completed work experience at a community child’s centre. I am glad I got the opportunity to meet many staff members and young kids, that I got to build relationships with. Each day, I got to experience something new.” – Tianah

“I completed my work experience at an early learning centre. My favourite room was the baby room as I got to hold, feed and play with all the little ones. Learning how to interact with the different ages was fun as there are really chatty kids but there are also kids that don’t talk much or need to warm up a little bit.” – Emily

“The most interesting part about the kindergarten was how many books they read. The amount of books was huge; nearly every time I finish a book, they wanted me to read more. They loved most of the activities I gave them for this week. The whole work experience was great to do.” – Michael

“This placement taught me about the health and safety practices of restaurants and how they maintain this safe environment. I enjoyed observing how the staff efficiently co-operated with each other both in customer service and in the kitchen.” – Angelica

“During my work experience I learnt some important things such as teamwork and the types of machinery used in cabinet making. It was good because they really welcomed me.” - Andre

Cultural Experience

I recently had the opportunity to go to a book launch held at Adelaide University. The book, Adnyamathanha – A Culture Guide and Language Book, has been 40 years in the making by Terrence and his wife Josephine Coulthard.

Terrence and Josephine are the most beautiful and welcoming couple. They acknowledge the importance of working with people from all cultural backgrounds, sharing their stories. As an example, Terrence explained how the bible talks about the great flood, and the Adnyamathanha people also believe there was a great flood.

In collaboration with other elders, this book provides a way to preserve the language and culture for the Adnyamathanha community for future generations. I definitely have a connection with my cultural heritage by the education of my aunties and uncles and I hope that one day all of my fellow students can come to acknowledge and learn more about Adnyamathanha culture and their own culture.
