Middle School Report

It’s been an eventful Term 3 in the Middle School with a lot happening for Year 9 and 10 students.

Our Beacon Ambassadors arranged an excellent Speed Careering Event for the Year 10 students. Guest presenters ranged from the Fire Rescue, Defence Force and Police force to Airline Pilots, Human Resources Managers and Finance Managers. The Year 10 students were highly engaged in the presentations and asked each guest many questions to find out what a normal day in their job looks like and what the requirements are to enter the profession. In addition to this event the students also participated in a Work Skills session. This gave them an insight into resume building and interview skills, they even got a chance to practice their interview techniques. It was a great event run by a very impressive group of Beacon Ambassadors.

During week 9 of Term 3 all of the Year 9 students attended the City Experience, always a highlight of the Year 9 curriculum. A week-long program where student get to experience all Melbourne city has to offer. Some of the exciting things they got to do included Ice Skating, cycling along the Yarra, rock climbing, sport day at MSAC, tours of Etihad Stadium and Docklands, visiting the Melbourne Star, Shrine of Remembrance, street art tours including a stencil art workshop, Victoria Market food tour just to name a few, and this was all finished off on the Friday with a cruise from the city to Williamstown.

Melbourne really turned the weather on with sunny skies and warm sunshine for the entire week. Great work to Ms Pannu and all those involved in the City Experience. Make sure you keep an eye out for the upcoming City Experience Expo early Term 4, during which the students get to highlight all the best things of the week.

A group of our Year 9 students have been involved in the ABCN Goals program. During Term 3 they have attended sessions at Optus and KPMG. The focus of each session was building relationships and confidence, communication and realising your strengths. This is a wonderful program for all those involved and as is the case every year, the mentors get just as much out of the program as the students.

A number of our students took part in the MAC performance ‘Seussical the Musical’ ranging from performers, backstage and ushers. Well done to all those involved and it was great to see so much involvement from our middle school students.

The Middle School is looking forward to an exciting and eventful Term 4.
