Principal's Report

I trust that our students had a relaxing break and found quality time to spend with family and friends. It is always difficult in the winter holidays to find the balance between getting out and about and keeping warm. I enjoyed spending time with my children (Bailey 10 and Amelie 4) however it was great to come back to school last Monday to catch up with the staff and students. Concord School provides a dynamic educational environment in which there are always exciting challenges for our students. We are looking forward to a productive term 3.

Communication with Parents and Families

One area of the school that we are constantly looking to improve is our communication with parents and families. These days it is a particular challenge with many forms of communication available and families preferring communication in differing ways.

As a school we have a facebook page, with nearly 900 ‘LIKES’, that is used to celebrate school events through photos and video and build connections with the broader community. Communication between home and school is usually done through hard copy notes, emails and the communication book. As a school we will be increasingly communicating through Compass https://www.compass.education/

Communication can not only occur through the Compass app but through emails that are sent through Compass. The advantage to this is that it is connected to our school software systems so it will always contain the current emails addresses of parents and family members. All parents have been given a username and password to access Compass and approximately 70% or parents are now doing so. From term 4 the newsletter will only be distributed through Compass so please ensure that you log-on to Compass if you haven’t already done so. If you haven’t been logging on then Karen Jordan, our Community and Communications Administrator, will be ringing you to see if you require any support to do so.

The Compass log-on can be found at https://concordsch-vic.compass.education

New Newsletter Format

You may notice that this Newsletter has some changes to its content. We have attempted to make the school news more relevant to parents and families. We have introduced a Careers and Transitions section in which our team will communicate the programs that our current and past students are and have been involved in such as work experience, vocational education and training as well as apprenticeships and traineeships. Our Community and Communications team will be discussing upcoming information forums we will be offering as well as ways in which parents will be able to connect with each other socially and support each other in regard to meeting the individual needs of their children.

2017 Presentation Ball

Preparations for the 2017 Presentation Ball, to be held on Friday August 11th at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre, are proceeding well. The students are very excited and are busy preparing their dresses, suits and everything else that goes into preparing for a grand evening such as this.
