Kindergarten Excursion
On Monday 25th June, Kindergarten went on a landmark treasure hunt for our Geography excursion around the town of Moree. We read clues as we visited many different landmarks around the town and learnt a lot at each place. First stop was the fire station where we learnt about safe and unsafe fires, smoke alarms and the fire trucks. After that, we visited the Moree Post Office. It was so exciting to see out the back where the bikes load up to deliver the mail. Inside, we got to see how the mail is sorted and where our letters go when we post them in the mailbox. After all that walking, it was time for morning tea which we enjoyed at Mary Brand Park. Our final stop was C&W where we got to meet Miss Johnson’s dad, Eliza’s mum and Hazel’s dad. We then headed back to school to find a HUGE pile of treasure. What a fantastic time we had.
We are so grateful to the wonderful parent helpers that were able to join us on the excursion.

Kindergarten Semester 1 Reports
Reporting provides feedback to students, parents and other teachers about student progress. In a standards-referenced framework, teachers make professional judgements about student achievement. This is done at key points in the learning cycle. Schools formally report to parents twice in a calendar year.
The purpose of end of semester Kindergarten reports is to foster your child’s learning and development, and to support your child in becoming an independent learner. Just like educators teaching Grade 1-12 students, kindergarten educators use assessment and evaluation practices and procedures that are designed to offer feedback that is clear, meaningful and timely.
The NSW Education Standard Authority (NESA), offers schools a reporting mechanism called The Common Grade Scale (GGS). It an be used to report student achievement in both primary and junior secondary years in all NSW schools. This particular tool, is however, optional for Kindergarten (ES1). After reflection and discussion, a decision has been made to not apply the CGS to reporting in Kindergarten in 2018, using an alternative yet informative scale.
The report format for Kindergarten differs from the report format used for Years 1 to 6. This report allows the teacher to make specific and informative comments on the student’s first year at St Philomena’s School. The report is informed by the Early Stage One outcomes from the NSW Syllabuses. The report will give a clear indication at which the student is working in regards to these outcomes. The criteria of ‘Working Above Expected Level’, ‘Working At Expected Level’ and ‘Working Towards Expected Level’ is used to provide you with specific indication of where your child is performing, at this stage of their development.
