NAIDOC celebrations

On Monday, despite the glorious drizzle, we celebrated NAIDOC week as a whole school community. It was wonderful to see many parents and special guests attend the morning tea and ceremony. 2018 elder of the year, Gay Roberts, welcomed us to country then our Secondary ATSI Dance Group performed a welcome dance, clearing away bad spirits and energies to make way for the good. Gay's granddaughter and Year 8 student, Rochelle Roberts, led us in singing We are Australian in Gamilaraay as secondary students processed with the flags through the assembly.

Lorilie Haines and Paul Spearim Jnr. performed a smoking ceremony to conclude our celebrations as students, staff and visitors were leaving the hall.

Our 2018 NAIDOC ceremony was a beautiful celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their culture, spirituality and connection to country.

NAIDOC games and BBQ

K-4 students will participate in traditional games on Thursday with some assistance from Year 7 and 8 secondary students.

Year 10 are cooking a free BBQ for ALL (every student will have a sausage sandwich provided for lunch) which begins at 1pm.

Visitors, please RSVP ASAP with numbers if you are able to attend.

After lunch, Year 9 and 10 will take on the staff in a highly contested game of touch footy and netball (we need some parents to help play with the staff if you are able!)
