COMMUNITY

Chaplaincy at Brighton Secondary College

There is a history that stretches over many decades of chaplaincy at BSC. This role represents the local community in providing pastoral support to all in the college community. Chaplains work as an integral and valuable part of the student wellbeing team. The current chaplain, Jess Giffin has been in the role since 2014 and is presently on maternity leave. She will resume in mid-2022. Tania Vairamuttu, one of our mental health practitioners, is working an additional two days per week to partially cover the chaplaincy role.

Chaplaincy represents a partnership between the local community and the school.

Community funding comes largely through the generosity of BICCYS Op Shop in Church Street, Brighton. We would encourage anyone in the school community to support BICCYS, given the significant contribution they make to student wellbeing. The link between chaplaincy and the local community is also expressed through the chaplaincy support team. This committee meets each term to ensure that the chaplain is well-supported, to oversee chaplaincy funding and to liaise with Korus Connect – the chaplaincy service provider.

Any parents or other members of the school community who would like to be involved with the chaplaincy support team are welcome to contact me in the wellbeing office on

9591 5617.
