Year 7 Growth Mindset Day

What is Growth Mindset Day?

Growth Mindset Day for Marian is a time where all Year 7 students come together and the teachers and Learning Support Officers teach and encourage them to have a growth mindset. They taught us that intelligence is not fixed. If we think about our thoughts and apply different ways to do something, without giving up, we are working towards a growth mindset. A Growth mindset is really important because it means that you believe that our talents can be improved through hard work, good strategies, and input from others. Personally, Growth Mindset Day really helped me see my challenges as an opportunity.

Activities we participated in

Throughout the day the Year 7's participated in fun growth mindset activities such as puzzles, lego, yoga, music, mindful colouring in and juggling. They worked together to experience new challenges such as attempting tricky puzzles, lego designs and performing various movements in yoga. Juggling was one of the hardest things to learn, but when we did we didn't give up. All these activities helped us get in touch with our thoughts and helped us persevere with a fixed to a Growth mindset. When you entered a room you could hear the students saying ‘I can do this' and  ‘I will keep trying.’

Here's what some of the students thought about Growth Mindset Day:

Alana Kuloski said ‘I believe that the year 7 growth mindset day inspired more students to believe that they can achieve anything if they have a positive mindset.’

Danica Lobo said ‘Year 7 Growth Mindset Day was an intriguing day, full of exciting activities that made us think about the way we approach things, and highlighted how there is a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. Something I learned during the course of the day is that no matter how hard the task is, keep persevering and keep going, because eventually, there is always a way out, and keeping positive will make you believe that it can happen.’

Olivia Dinamie said 'In Year 7 we have been working on all sorts of stuff. For example, in Maths we have worked on different types of data and graphs. In English we have been reading and annotating Crow Country. We are learning many more interesting things throughout different classes.
