Year 9 Unplugged

Geelong Wool Museum

On 11 March 2022 the Year 9s went on an excursion to the Wool Museum in Geelong to support our learnings of the Industrial Revolution and further understand what working conditions were like in the 1700s -1950s.

On the day, we learned about the wool factory and about how, why and what these factories produced for society at the time. We participated in a range of activities including a tour of the Wool Museum and learning about how wool was made, and the process it took to create the material that was used for items such as clothing. These experiences gave us a deeper understanding of how the first few settlements lived in Australia.

The museum provided rigorous and thorough engagement workshops where we learned to understand the capability and development of technology and technical machines supporting workers with their jobs of making, grooming, washing and cleansing sheep wool.

Students also attended a carpet pattern making workshop, where we learnt how to read punch cards to determine what colours were needed to create a certain pattern on a carpet, and also went on a historical walk where we took a stroll along a beach with figures of people from different time periods.

The afternoon was complete with a leisurely walk around the beach and everyone was delighted to enjoy their gelati.
