Level 5/6

Level 5 and 6 News

Year 5 and 6 have continued exploring Natural Disasters as a part of their Earth and Space inquiry unit. The past few weeks have provided students with opportunities to delve into describing what tectonic plates are, explaining the relationship between tectonic plates and earthquakes and creating a building that could withstand an earthquake.  There was lots of excitement in the hub when creating the earthquake proof buildings as the hands-on component involved using jelly, marshmallows and spaghetti to stimulate the earthquake effect. During week 5 students were able to explore the difference between primary, secondary and surface waves that occur during tsunamis and the impact they can have on the surrounding environment.

Our first Buddy sessions have also been a highlight as students thoroughly enjoyed meeting their buddies and taking on their leadership roles in a wonderful manner. The Year 1 students were also excited to meet the senior students and we are certain this will continue to be a great cross class opportunity for all students involved throughout the year.

There was much excitement this week as the Year 6 students received their official 2022 jackets and shirts and they have been proudly wearing these each day.

We are looking forward to the next few weeks where sport will play a big part in our days as we continue with 5/6 sport and participate in the SEDA cricket clinics and whole school house cross country.
