Level 1/2

Level 1

The term is flying by and the Level 1 students are embracing their learning!  As we settle into routines, the students are working hard on their weekly spelling and take-home readers.  In Writing, we have been learning about the Writing Process and students have been practicing the elements of Think, Have a go, More, Draw and Share.   In Reading, we are continuing to build on our reading strategies, with a focus last week on identifying the different parts of a story: Beginning, Middle and End.  Students have also risen to the challenge of increasing their reading stamina and we will track our progress during independent reading time throughout the year.  Place Value has been our focus in Maths and students have been exploring how a number can be represented in various ways.

In Show and Tell last week, the students shared the ways they stay healthy and their contributions provided some fantastic talking points for our Inquiry topic, Happy Healthy Me! It was lovely to hear the children discussing all the fruits and vegetables that they love, their favourite activities outside of school, getting enough sleep and drinking lots of water!

Using some wonderful resources provided by Miss Tomkins and Miss Bell, students have participated in respectful discussions about the significance of an Acknowledgement of Country.  We even made our own for the classroom.

Many of the students have now met with their Buddy classes for 2022, and lots of fun was had by all!  The Buddy program is such a fabulous way for students to connect with each other and participate in activities that build teamwork, respect and cooperation.

Nicole Robertson & Megan Taylor (1N), Rebecca Gordon & Kyla Petrilli (1GP), Danielle Anderson (1A) and Rebecca McJannet (1M).

Level 2

It’s been a busy time in Level 2. We have started to personalise our writer’s notebook with pictures and drawings that represent our likes and personality. We are learning how to write recounts.

On Tuesday the 22nd we had an amazing day celebrating ‘Twos day’. We decorated headbands to wear throughout the day and worked with a partner to explore all things number 2.

In our Maths classes we have been learning about addition and subtraction and everyone was very excited to be able to practice counting by twos.
