PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

Well it’s the time of year to wind down and reflect on how far we have come. The students have had a wonderful year in PE. I can say that we are all running a little bit faster, feeling a little bit stronger and smarter.

I’d like to wish all our families a safe and happy holiday season and thank you for all the contributions of time, effort and support you have offered in preparing your children to be ready for Physical Education. It is truly a team effort!

I’d like to leave you all with a little message for the holidays:

Make sure you all take the time to rest and recover over the holidays, I know I will be.

I can't wait to see you all in 2023.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY

This term we have celebrated the power of Sport in providing a safe and welcoming space for all participants, regardless of their abilities. The 3rd of December marked International Day of People with a Disability. To mark this significant day, the Australian Institute of Sport together with Paralympic athletes and coaches across the country, worked with our school to promote inclusion in sport.

Some of our students had the exciting opportunity to meet Isabel Martin a basketball Paralympian and Mitch a para athlete skier. These two amazing athletes offered our students insights into elite para-sports, while sharing personal insights of resilience building, health, and wellbeing.

Isabel spoke about the setbacks she encountered before she

was selected to represent Australia at the Tokyo Paralympics. She told us about the times she was smiling at the camera, but was crying inside and how she didn’t see it at the time but the setbacks helped her grow. She also asked us if there was a time that we felt this way. The students made some great connections to Isobel’s story and asked some great questions. Some students even had a whirl on her very expensive gameday wheels.

Isobel told me afterwards that this was her first presentation and that she was nervous before she came to our school. She was very happy that she was welcomed by such kind and respectful students. We hope to continue our relationship with Isobel and Mitch and wish her all the luck in training and qualifying for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Isobel’s message for all SMPPS students was:

  • Don’t let fear stop you!
  • Setbacks help you grow!
  • Work hard for your goals, but don’t define yourself by success or failure!
