Presentation evening

Presentation evening was a huge success this year and we are very proud of our MGSC students.

It was the first time in three years that we have been able to celebrate students who have achieved success at our school in a public way, with our community present. And we are so glad we did and can’t wait to do it again!

Approximately 70 student awardees, 60 student musicians and 200 guests gathered together in Nina Carr Theatre on Wednesday 30 November for the 2022 Presentation Evening. Our official party included principal class, subschool leaders, our school council president and past pupil, Tara Graves. Tara spoke to the audience about her journey since leaving the college, made reference to our values of empowerment, inclusivity, creativity and achievement, as she discussed how she came to work at Questacon at the National Science and Technology Centre. She was able to engage us all with her humour and honesty and left our students feeling inspired and excited about their own futures.

We were also able to enjoy our symphonic band play to a live crowd. They performed the Prelude and Firestorm by Roland Barrett beautifully and created a sense of occasion for our evening. We finished the night with a performance from our combined choirs, the All Star and Madrigal, singing the newly written The Voice of the Sea by John Williamson and Jared Haschek. Thank you to Ms Harvey and Mr Veevers for their hard work with these students.

The night’s main focus was to acknowledge excellence in whole school Sport and Performing Arts, Effort and Achievement across multiple subject areas and to celebrate contributions to the greater community. The process to nominate students started with nominations by classroom teachers, subject leaders and student managers, who then collated and discussed each student while referring to available results and data gathered over the course of the year and shared recommendations with the college leadership to ensure a thorough process. Some students were lucky to receive more than one award, where they excelled in multiple areas. We were also able to celebrate students who have been formally recognised outside of the college for their efforts at school.

It really was a wonderful evening. A special thank you to our school PFA for contributing the costs of the pins and the awards. We are grateful to all the families who attended and the support of their students throughout the year, not only those who were celebrated on the night, but also all other students who have worked hard this year. And finally, a huge congratulations to all students who received an award!
