Principal's message
Dear MGSC community
I would like to commence my final newsletter message for the year by giving my thanks to the College Council members and the Parents and Friends' Association for all of there support and hours of commitment. It has been an extremely busy year at the school without lockdowns to interupt the learning. I thank our the student representatives on Council, Candice Prior and Amberley Powell, for bringing their student voices to the table.
As you are aware, this year the school has been reflecting on what are our school values. We surveyed staff, parents and students for the essential words that can sum up what it means to be a member of the MGSC Community, and we have listened, compared notes and we finally launched them at the beginning of Headstart.
In addition to our school moto, Courage and Work, these four values will guide us in everything that we do and say as a community. They are - empowerment, inclusivity, creativity and achievement. These will become the centre piece of the work that we do in relation to the new 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. We undertook the Strategic Plan Review in Term 3 and we now have two key directions for the next four years. They are to Maximise Student Learning Growth and to Maximise Student Engagement and Wellbeing.
Building Works
The Wellness Centre was endorsed by Council and submitted for approval to the Victorian School Building Authority. We have appointed the Architects, B2 who provided a range of options. In consultation with key staff, the layout of the Wellness Centre was approved. Following this the chosen option (above) has been approved.

Wednesday Environment Crew
Through out the year we have been fortunate to have the weekly assistance of the Wednesday Environment crew. The team comes on site to support our recycling management plan. Their careful attention to detail ensures the right items make it into the correct recycling system which has a big impact on our environment and sustainability strategy. Thank you to Christian and his crew. See you next year!
Year 2022 Dux
Congratulations to all of the Year 12 students who have been working hard all year. Congratulations to our Dux, Vanessa Marcon who received an ATAR of 99.35. This is what she wrote to me from France when I made contact with her to let her know of her accomplishment.
Thanks for the congratulations. I am extremely happy with the results and I wanted to thank you, all the teachers and the school facilities for assisting me in getting these results. In regards to university, ... I am going to do a double degree of Law and Global Studies or Law and Commerce at Monash.
Thanks again for everything.
Vanessa Marcon
More VCE results
We are delighted to share more outstanding VCE results for the Class of 2022. Congratulations to two students who obtained perfect scores of 50: Tilda Verhoeven for Environmental Science and Amberley Powell in Health and Human Development.
In more good news Izzy Donat has been selected to exhibit her Product Design and Technology work at Top Design 2023 – one of only eight students representing this subject. Izzy studied this subject through Virtual School Victoria (VSV), was an award winner at our VCE Art and Design Show and her fashion design creations featured in this year's Making Waves.
In closing, I also would like to acknowledge the leadership of our 2022 School Captains – Isobel Long and Olivia Gryszan.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
Best wishes
