Library News

French recreational reading

At the request of the French department, the library has purchased a number of French language novels for students and staff.  Some of these books have already arrived from overseas and include the entire Harry Potter Series, The Hunger Games 1, The Cruel Prince 1, Six of Crows 1 & 2, Darkest Minds and Percy Jackson 1.  The entire Harry Potter series has already been loaned as we await the arrival of more new titles.

Graphic novels have been really popular this year with students. Filled with incredible images, a reader should be able to understand the story based upon the artwork alone.

This library collection is filled with Biographical, Fictional Relationships, Fantasy, Historical, Manga and other titles based upon popular novels.

Happy holiday reading to you all and see you next year.

Book Club

The final book club for 2022 was held a couple of weeks ago and it was great to see our regular members and a few new faces.  With a selection of three books to read, students chose to read the titles that they were interested in.

One of the books, Sadie Starr’s Guide to Starting Over, was set in contemporary Melbourne and a discussion about how the setting contributed to our understanding of the story ensued.  One student commented about her preference for books set in other times and places so that she can be transported to other worlds.  As reading preferences vary from student to student, it is important to have a variety of both Australian and international stories to offer readers - a criteria library staff use when selecting school library books.

We will meet early in Term 1 for students to select their books and talk about how Book Club will look in 2023. Expressions of interest to join will be sent out next year.
