Careers & Pathways

Empowered Women in Trades project

Over the first two days of December, students in year 9 to 11 were able to take part in a pilot program to introduce them to the many career and pathways available for women in the trade industries. The two day program started with a day of safety and practical OH & S knowledge and training to earn their White Card. This was completed here at MGSC.

With their White Card in hand, and personal protection equipment on the group headed to a construction site in Tullamarine. There they were guided through a working construction site by women working in trades to see and experience the many trades that make up the industry.

Student's experience

The Empowered Women in Trades was a life changing opportunity for all the girls who took part in the program. All the students involved learnt so many new things and we even earned tour white cards. The two day program was tough and all the girls managed to get through it in the end. The program was a very nice experience for everyone who took part in the program. Mel and the rest of the crew that we met where super kind and caring. The two day program was super exciting and interesting. All the interesting things we learnt will come in handy in future careers.
