Learning and Teaching

Student Wellbeing in 2022

What a wonderful year we have had all back at school together. Mental health has never been more important than after the 2 years of lock down and remote learning.

We began the year with SWELL week and a week of getting to know students and teachers and reconnecting with one another.

We had a fabulous Circus incursion where the children enjoyed an entertaining Circus show and worked together to learn Circus skills such as juggling and hula hooping.

We have had a huge year this year with the launch of PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning).

As a whole school we agreed upon our shared values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILTY and

KINDNESS. We also decided to adopt the mascot of Lori the Lorikeet, as Rainbow Lorikeets are native birds to the Lynbrook area.

The teachers developed a matrix of expected behaviours and developed weekly social skill lessons to teach the children how to demonstrate the expected behaviour.

We have seen an improvement in the calmness in the learning spaces and the children have been able to follow our school expectations. We look forward to further developing and imbedding our understanding of PBL in 2023.

We have continued to learn this year about the Respectful Relationships curriculum, a program that helps the children to create a gender friendly classroom and school, where everyone is respected despite any differences we may have.

The children have further deepened their understanding of the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional literacy during SWAP (Student Wellbeing and Performing Arts) fortnightly specialist classes.

We welcomed back our annual Community Twilight Market along with the Art show, an event that has not been held together since 2018. The rain held off and we had a fantastic night enjoying food trucks, market stalls, performances and spending time with family and friends.

We look forward to another great year in 2023!!!!

SENIOR SPORTS

Senior Football Clinics

Thanks to the Positive Start Program funded by the Government the Seniors attended football clinics on Wednesday December 14th. We were lucky the weather held off and each Learning Space attended an hour clinic. Thanks to the coaches from AFL South East. The students had a great time!!

Grade 5/6 Skateboarding Clinics

Thanks to the Positive Start Program our Grade 5/6s have been able to participate in skateboarding clinics.

Thanks to the coaches from YMCA Action Sports for delivering this program on Monday and Wednesday. The students had a fantastic time and I was very impressed to see students who thought they couldn’t do an activity actually try it and achieve. You could see their self-esteem soar.

Well done to the Grade 5/6s for trying something new, even though they may have initially been hesitant. I think I overheard a few say “I’m going to ask for a skateboard for Christmas.”

JUNIOR SPORTS

Junior Football Clinics

Thanks to the Positive Start Program funded by the Government the Juniors finally attended a second football clinic on Thursday December 15th. Each Learning Space attended a 50 minute clinic. A big thank you to the coaches from AFL South East for delivering the football Clinics. Our students had a great time!

On behalf of the PE/Sports team we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope that everyone is able to spend time with their family and enjoy a relaxing holiday.
