HEALTH

HELLO FROM THE HEALTH FACULTY!

Welcome back to those interested in all things ‘health’.

The Health faculty is looking forward to 2023, with nothing but excitement. Everybody is super keen for the mouthwatering aromas to waft throughout the school corridors from Food Technology classes. We’re also enthusiastic to provide students with broad understandings of health and wellbeing that reach far beyond the individual. Students will continue to learn how important health and wellbeing is to themselves and to families, local communities and on a global scale.

We would like to formally welcome two new Food Technology teachers to the McKinnon community.

McKinnon Secondary College ‘Health’ faculty is very fortunate to welcome two new faces to Food Technology. Jemma Owen and Rochelle Travitz have joined our expanding team in the roles of Year 9 and Year 10 Food Technology. Both teachers have arrived at MCK with an advanced level of expertise in their teaching areas and overall familiarity with the school. Rochelle and Jemma are extremely excited to be a part of our McKinnon family.

What’s your favourite cuisine / dish to make? Carbonara is my favourite dish to make.

What's something you're planning on doing in the next year that you've never done?

Travel to Europe during my break.

Jemma you’re a bit of a sporty spice. Which sports do you enjoy playing the most?

What’s your dream job? I am doing my dream job. I’m so fortunate to be able to pair my two loves, cooking and teaching, although I would love to own a fancy bed and breakfast one day in the country.

Coffee or tea? Definitely tea.

If you could cook for anyone, who would it be and what would you cook? If I could cook for anyone it would either be my Nana who I found my love of cooking from, or my closest friends - food brings everyone together. I would cook a feast of favourite foods from pizzas to roasts, soups, salads and finish with decadent desserts.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I love travelling and have always wanted to go to Greece and Egypt to experience the cultures and ancient history that these countries have to offer.

What's the best piece of advice you have ever been given? One of my first Principals taught me to go slow, consider all options and then make informed decisions. My life mantra is to ‘let go and trust’.

What’s at the top of your bucket list? Top of my bucket list is to find happiness every day!!

FOOD TECHNOLOGY

A friendly reminder to all students enrolled in Food Technology at McKinnon Secondary College:

To reduce waste, help the environment and use safer materials, we encourage you to bring a clean large reusable container to school each week for production lessons. This means that your amazing work can arrive home safely for family members to observe and perhaps also enjoy. This small request also means that you can help fight pollution, reduce waste and reduce energy consumption typically required when creating new materials.
