WELCOME BACK TO THE WORLD OF PE & SPORT AT MCKINNON IN 2023

We hope everyone had a lovely summer and was able to stay active and be inspired by the many sporting highlights that took place over the break from the Australian Open to the Big Bash. There was a lot going on!

Back at school we are busy organising lots of extracurricular activities for students to take part in during lunchtimes. Keep an eye out on the Compass news feed for all the details.

At the East campus there will be some Volleyball sessions on Wednesday’s in the gym and on Thursday’s a Rock Up Basketball competition. Over at the Main campus we will be organising a Year 7 Rock Up Basketball competition and some AFL Skills sessions.

We also have weekly sport for our Years 7 & 8 students and Intermediate and Senior Sports Competitions for Years 9-12 students. Sign Up’s and details of training sessions for Intermediate and Senior teams will be posted on Compass soon.

In addition to all this Sport, our McKinnon Swimming Trials will be held on Wednesday 1 March at GESAC, more information will be sent out to students who wish to compete soon.

During Term 1 it is imperative that all students have their school hat for both PE & Sport. If you haven’t been able to purchase a school hat at the moment you are able to wear another hat to keep you sun smart. Please make sure that student’s names are on their hats, jackets and rugby shirts.

Stay active

VOLLEYBALL NEWS - NATIONALS

The Australian Volleyball Schools Cup was a 6 day tournament held from Monday 5 December - Sat 10 December, 2022 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. With 2000 games, 390 teams competed against the top teams in the country as well as international teams from New Zealand.

It was the first time for our top three McKinnon Volley teams (Open Honours Girls, Year 10 Honours Girls and Year 7 Boys Division 1) to participate in a National tournament to compete with the best. The games were tough, but each team fought hard and played some brilliant volleyball. The atmosphere of team spirit, camaraderie and enthusiastic competition was evident in the stadium every day.

The stadiums were humid and athletes were certainly feeling the heat and pressure. There were many tears of joy and sadness as they experienced the highs and lows that come with playing at a very competitive level. Every athlete improved immensely throughout the tournament, pushing their body to the limits.

Overall, the Open Honours Girls placed 7th place, the Year 10 Honours Girls also placed 7th and the Year 7 Boys placed 8th.

Well done on the amazing efforts of all of these wonderful, hard working athletes:
