Hi everyone, my name is Kelvin Cheuk and I feel honoured for the opportunity to join the McKinnon family. My previous career was as a structural engineer and for the past few years I have taught VCE Mathematics at South Oakleigh College. I am looking forward to working alongside a wonderful team of teachers and staff, and I am excited to journey with all the students I get to connect with. I will be teaching Year 10 Methods, Year 11 Methods and Year 10 Maths Foundation at the Main Campus.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Hi everyone, my name is Juan David Ospina Leon (with a Spanish accent on the o). I very much look forward to this year teaching at McKinnon this year in Year 7 ICT and Spanish, Year 9 Coding and Year 10 General Maths.

I have a double degree of Economics and Arts from Monash University, where I specialised in Actuarial Statistics and loved every part of it. The maths at least! Less the idea of being an actual actuary at the end. I later also went back to study at Melbourne University to study part of a Graduate Diploma in Data Science where I studied more maths again, but also really delved into programming (in the language of R mainly), and now I love wrangling data and creating visualisations such as PAT and NAPLAN data for example.

I'll be working across both campuses and I hope students can be infected by my love of maths and learning in general. I believe education is the most powerful weapon to arm yourself to enter this ever changing complex world that is around us.

Oh and by the way, feel welcome to speak to me in Spanish, Japanese, French, or even basic Mandarin Chinese.

Hi everyone, my name is Boris and I am excited to continue the next part of my teaching journey here at McKinnon. My subjects for 2023 are Years 10 and 11 General Maths, Year 10 Foundation and Year 7 Sport.

As a teacher, I enjoy challenging students to develop both academically and socially and I am grateful to have been given this opportunity to do so with the students at this school.

I look forward to a big 2023 and am keen to meet the rest of the McKinnon community!’

Hieu Dang

Hieu Dang

My name is Hieu Dang. Previously, I was working as a business analyst for an American company for seven years. I moved to Australia in 2019 to pursue a career in teaching, obtained my Master of Teaching from Monash University in 2020 and began teaching in 2021.

My previous schools are Glen Waverley Secondary College and Trinity Grammar School, where I taught both Mathematics and Digital Technologies. I am now teaching these two subjects at McKinnon Secondary College, and I would love to bring my skills and experience into the classroom here to teach the next generation. Teaching has brought me much more joy than my previous analyst job, as I find more meaning in what I do every day.

As someone who has lived in three different continents, I love meeting new people of diverse backgrounds and learn about their cultures and customs. I also have a hobby of learning languages and am fluent in Vietnamese and have intermediate knowledge of Spanish, French and Mandarin Chinese. In my free time, I would like to exercise (go to the gym, go swimming, ride a bike) and play board games with others (I have about 30 different ones in my collection).”

Hi! My name is Georgia, and I’ve just started here at McKinnon. This is my third year of teaching and I’ve just finished two years teaching maths and philosophy with the Teach For Australia program.

When I’m not teaching I’m often hanging out with my dog (see me for pics), knitting, sewing or playing ice hockey.
