2023 US/Space Camp Tour

Planning is well underway for the 2023 US/Space Camp Tour. East Doncaster Secondary College has run a biennial tour to the United States since 2007, where students participate in the NASA Advanced Space Program at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. This world leading program trains students to perform the duties of NASA scientists and astronauts, culminating in a three hour simulated space mission. It involves six days of applied science and engineering learning activities in the unique facilities offered by NASA at the US Space and Rocket Centre. The broad range of activities are designed to foster and develop teamwork and leadership skills. At camp, EDSC students have the opportunity to work alongside students from other schools and countries.

The tour begins with a stop-over in San Francisco and concludes with a visit to Orlando where a day at the Kennedy Space Centre is spent viewing the launch sites and museums. The students also visit a local high school in Huntsville.

Our students have been busy with their fundraising efforts over the past few weeks. They set up a stall on Election Day to sell drink, biscuits and sauces, and have been selling raffle tickets for Christmas hampers. We would like to acknowledge; Harrison’s mum for making all of the sauces, Leonie Hoffman for making biscuits, the Parents and Friends for their help and advice on Election Day, Karyn Moxey for making up the hampers, and to everyone who bought produce/raffle tickets

Year 7 After School STEM program 2023

Recently the Rotary Club of Manningham generously provided funding for a unique STEM experience for our 2023 Year 7 students.

During Term 2 next year we’ll be working with Supreme Incursions to run an after school workshop that will allow groups of Year 7 students to design, construct and, most importantly, test a fully functional billy cart.  The workshop will run for 6 weeks and provide opportunities for students to learn new skills, use a range of tools and equipment, generate ideas and creatively develop solutions.

This program is open to all students, male and female, but places will be limited.  At the start of 2023, interested Year 7 students will be able to submit an Expression of Interest to apply.  Thanks to the Rotary Club of Manningham there will be no cost to students.  Look out for further information at the beginning of 2023.
