Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community,
Prayer
During these times of increasing lack of tolerance for those perceived to be different, we pray:
Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what we believe to be right. May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.
Amen
Parents and Friends News
Thank you to our parents who were able to meet today for our latest Parents and Friends Meeting. We were able to discuss and plan for upcoming activities such as football day, Father's Day and some fundraising when our school acts as a voting venue for the referendum.
The Mothers Day Stall earlier this term raised a great $300 for our school. Thank you to all involved in its preparation and to all our families for your support of the event.
Our next meeting will be Thursday 13th July at 9.00am in the staffroom.
Feast of the Sacred Heart (One Heart Many Faces)
As mentioned over the last couple of weeks, our parish and school feast day will be celebrated on Sunday 18th June. We have some students involved in the Mass and their parents have been informed by letter. Our school choir is also singing at the Mass and we would love to see as many members in attendance at the 10.30am Mass as possible. We will send out a letter to parents of all choir members early next week.
Students attending the Mass are encouraged to wear a costume representing their heritage as they did on Harmony Day earlier this year.
After Mass, those who wish to join our parish partners for refreshments are invited to the parish hall. If attending you are invited to bring a plate so we can enjoy some food and good company. Our feast day is one of celebrating our rich diversity. As such, if you would like to bring some food that represents your families culture, you are warmly encouraged to do so.
Good Samaritan Award Recipients
Congratulations to:
Ruan Jessica Tiffany Yiana Bhavin Jaxon
on receiving Good Samaritan Awards at today's assembly for showing care and compassion for their fellow students.
Indigenous Garden/Yarning Space
Our indigenous garden/yarning space is complete bar some finishing touches. Our Year 5/6 students will be creating and designing some "story poles" next term, paying homage and showing respect to the first peoples of our Darebin area, the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people. As you can see in the photo, some of our students are already using the space for a yarn!
The Fortunato (School Beanies)
Fortunato wearing the hat which is named after him. These school beanies are available in the uniform shop for the price of $15.00. It has been bought to my attention that a number of students are wearing their own coloured beanies in the classroom. I am open to students wearing their own beanies to and from school and outside at recess and lunch during these cold months, but I ask if they need to be worn in the classroom they be a school beanie please.
Acadamy of Mary Immaculate College Visit
Our girls in Years Three, Four and Five had a presentation earlier today, from a staff member and student of the Academy of Mary Immaculate girls college situated in Fitzroy.
Yours Sincerely
Mark Tierney
