Term 2, 2023
The Drama Performance Evening was held in term 2. On offer were a range of eclectic style performances from the Year 10 - 12 Drama classes that students had developed, written and rehearsed. Using a prompt, or stimulus material, the students worked on developing performances that could convey a range of ideas and feelings to their audience in multiple ways.
The students explored mythology and cults to unpack common ideas and cultural concepts of what these can mean to people. The students implemented a range of performance style conventions to create their performances so they met and connected with the prompt they were provided. There were both solo and ensemble performances by the students and the audience attendance was supportive and much appreciated.
Students performed their VCE Dances during the VCE Dance Evening in term 2. These included unit 3 / 4 (year 12) solo's, unit 1 /2 (year 11) small group or solo's and the class Learnt Dances. This included solo's from students studying VCE VET Dance as well. The VCE students’ performances are an assessment SAC for these subjects. |
Year 9 and 10 students from the college Dance Club also performed their routines. The students performed their dance works that they created in class and have rehearsed in the lead up to this evening. The dances on offer included Year 9 and 10 student group works that they have been working on during the Dance Club lessons.
The students performed with a high level of commitment and maturity. Well done.
The VCE Music Performance Evening was held Wednesday 17 May in the college theatre. Students from Year 11 and 12 Music presented their pieces which ranged across a broad selection of genres and styles. There were solo and ensemble performances that really showcased student ability across a range of instruments. This performance was also a key assessment for the students to demonstrate their proficiency as a performer using their chosen instrument.
The performance was very well attended with lots of support for the performers which was great to see. The performance totalled two hours approximately and was a real credit to the students involved.
The Year 10 Music class as well the 9/10 F-Block treated an intimate audience in the theatre to a range of repertoire that they have been working on throughout the term. The students have been working hard on their pieces and honing their musical skills both on their instrument and for the art of performing.
There was a range of styles on display ranging from sparse vocal arrangements to hard hitting rock and roll. The audience was very receptive to the efforts and dedication of the students and this was rightly deserved as they all had tried their very best. It was great to see so many students supporting other students to perform at their personal best!
Congratulations to all involved.
Over 50 of our Senior, Intermediate and Junior Vocal Ensemble students performed at this year’s MPCF. The event was held over 5 evenings at the Peninsula Community Theatre and each choir performed a range of repertoire. Students remained at school after hours to rehearse and eat together, before catching a bus to the performance. Our Senior Vocal Ensemble were also lucky enough to be able to collaborate with Dromana Primary in a beautiful performance of ‘Lanterns’. Students should be commended for their wonderful performances and excellent representation of the College.
The Term 2 Music Soirée was held on Wednesday 14 June in the Dromana College Library. Students from years 7 to 12 performed ensemble items to a supportive audience who listened attentively.
The whole event was run and mc’d by Student Leaders Emmet Thuan, Oli Delaney and Jay Howard. The leaders did a fantastic job at coordinating the music performances and informing the audience of the next act.
Excitingly 5 new year 7 ensembles performed for the first time at this soirée. Some students in these ensembles had only been learning their instrument for 2 terms and were already performing. All students have been rehearsing and practicing their respective parts all term in the lead up to this performance.
Special thanks to members of the audience who helped at the end of the performance to pack up the Library. This was especially welcome as exam tables had to be set up for the next day’s VCE GAT exam.
The Dromana Music Department appreciates the support from the school community is looking forward to the next Soirée.
