Principal's Report

Term 2, 2023

WELCOME

The motivation during Term 2 has been remarkable. Our students’ collective efforts, achievements, and positive attitude toward learning is to be acknowledged. I am always proud of our students who continue to impress and represent our college with pride.

Our staff have once again ensured that all students are supported by continuing to offer additional learning through a range of programs that allow our students to thrive within their schooling life.

To our families, I welcome and respect your contributions, feedback, and support. We can only accomplish the best for our students by working together as a strong community. Each day I look forward to working with you and your children.

ANNUAL OPEN NIGHT

The annual Dromana College Open Night was held on Wednesday 3rd May with all teaching and support staff present. Despite our cold Victorian weather, the event was very well attended by prospective students and their families. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and say thank you to all involved. Open Night is a fantastic opportunity to share the pride of our students and our programs with the wider community.

ANZAC DAY

Congratulations to our community on their involvement in the ANZAC celebrations. Some 400 people attended the local ANZAC commemoration breakfast held on ANZAC Day at the Dromana RSL.

Our College Captains Esther Leishman, Mackenzie Duncan, Oliver Delaney, and Robby Wood-Ingram alongside our choir and drummer Charles Bluff represented the College with pride at the Dromana ANZAC Ceremony.

Our talented choir sang ‘In Flanders Fields’ and joined Dromana Primary School in singing ‘We Are Australian’ and the ‘Australian National Anthem' - organised by Head of Music Ms Jacqui Rodden. I would like to thank all in attendance for coming together on this important day of remembrance.

SCHOOL REVIEW

As part of the improvement cycle, each Victorian government school undertakes a review every four years. The school community completes a comprehensive self-evaluation against the FISO continua of practice, which involves students, teachers, and community members. An independent analysis is also completed of a school’s performance against their goals and targets in their school strategic plan. The review evaluates the school's strengths, areas for improvement and the impact of its improvement efforts. At the end of the review, a new four-year school strategic plan is created and endorsed by the school community. I am pleased to report that our review has been completed, and we now begin the exciting work of creating and collaborating over shared goals to ensure continued success and achievement for all students. A report to the community will be shared early in term 3 when the strategic planning is complete.

BUSHFIRE PREPAREDNESS

It seems strange to be discussing Bushfire preparedness in such cold weather. Dromana College BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) has been lowered which means we will most likely only close on code red days in 2023.  Works to create fire breaks in the bushland areas surrounding the college are now underway, adding an additional layer of protection to the students, staff, and visitors of the college on high-risk fire days.
