Principal's Report
We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.
May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.
A visit to the Art Gallery
It was such a privilege to attend the Ballarat Art Gallery yesterday with our Year 5/6 students. We explored the beautiful art throughout the gallery and engaged in dancing and creating art with ochre. I was immensely impressed with the respect of our students, the learned knowledge that they were able to share during the session, as well as their genuine commitment to the art experience. Please take the time to look at the Year 5/6 newsletter piece this week for a true reflection on this valuable experience.
Drumbeat
I also had the pleasure of being invited to attend the final Drumbeat session, involving some very talented MRK-6 students. Not only did they perform for an invited audience, they then engaged the audience in the performance and coached selected audience members through learning rhythm and beats on the drums. We are delighted to announce that these students will be showcasing their talent at next week's assembly.
Assembly
Speaking of assembly, I want to share how very moved I was at last week's assembly with the presentation from all of our students, congratulating me on my appointment to principal. This moment confirmed for me why I do what I do, why I wanted this role and why our teachers and staff work so hard every day - it's about the children first and foremost.
Enjoy the rest of a short week,
Kylie Nissen
