Welcome to Week 2 of Term 3 2023

News and Reminders from your Pastoral Leaders.

General School News

  • Relay for Life is this weekend at Barlow Park. We wish all involved best of luck for the event and thank the school community for their continued support in raising money for Cancer Council in Term 2.
  • Best of luck to all students participating in the Cairns Marathon this weekend. Feel free to pop down to the race precinct on the esplanade and cheer all competitors on. Missio Dei will be supporting the Cairns Marathon at an aid station across the day.
  • A reminder the Cairns Show Holiday will be this Friday July 21.
  • Some personal grooming reminders from the student expectations booklet. Should students not meet these expectations students will be required to rectify.
  • Students are encouraged to continue striving for success with our positive rewards system of Merits. Merits earn students opportunities to receive Head of Year Certifcates and Principals Certificates at community pastoral groups and College assemblies. We look forward to celebrating this success with students over the term.

Regards,

Year 9

  •  Well done on a fantastic first week back! It is great to see students are organised with equipment ready for learning. A gentle reminder to make sure students are charging their laptops ready for school the next day.
  •  Social Emotional Learning (SEL) will be held on Tuesday this week. This is a great opportunity for students to plan out key dates in their diaries and reflect on their efforts from last term. Students should take the opportunity to ask for guidance from their Pastoral Mentors about how they could be more successful this term.
  • If students require a new lock, there are locks available for purchase at the Uniform Shop.

  • The RYDA Road Safety workshop last Monday was a great success and I would like to praise our students for demonstrating our College values.
  • Next Tuesday, we have a Study Skills workshop - the information letter was sent via email. It is an essential component to our SEL program and will target all pathways.
  • Students were emailed a Google form to reflect upon their Semester 1 reports during the holidays; all students must complete this to allow for discussions on progress, application and pathways. Subject changes should have already been organised if required; if in doubt, please contact Mrs Ambrose.
  • Sport is now on Tuesday afternoons and will involve inter-house competitions; students are to wear their House shirts.
