Positive Living

Week 5 Term 2:

Infants K-2 : Cooperation

K-2 students will be commencing their 6 week unit on Cooperation

Cooperation is "to work together well and support each other to achieve common goals."

There are 5 Principles of Cooperative Learning:

1.Positive interdependence –group members perceive they are linked with each other in a way that one cannot succeed unless everyone succeeds.

2.Promotive Interaction –where members share resources, and help support encourage and praise each other’s efforts.

3.Individual and group accountability –the group is accountable for achieving its goals, and also each member is accountable for their contribution and learning.

4.Interpersonal and small group skills –are developed through cooperative learning, such as communication, positive reinforcement, constructive feedback and problem solving. 5.Group Processing –exists when group members reflect on how well they are achieving their goals and maintaining effective working relationships.

Primary 3-6: Solutions

Students in Years 3-6 will be starting their 6 week unit on Solutions.

A solution is "a way to solve a problem, and there is always more than one possible solution."

We are all constantly making decisions and solving problems every day, from simple choices to complex issues. Interpersonal relationships, organisations and communities rely on the implementation of effective, collaborative and positive strategies for problem solving, so they can thrive and grow. Problem solving is a fundamental part of our functioning as human beings, and involves a mental process of discovering, analysing and solving problems with the goal to overcome barriers or obstacles to achieve goals. Many people find it extremely challenging to make decisions, and can either put them off by endlessly searching for more information or looking to others to decide for them. Others might toss a coin, or when they’ve made a decision spend a long time second-guessing themselves or feeling anxious about making the wrong choice.

Class Highlights - EP

EP, during Week 4, wrote imaginative stories about a superhero dog.

Students had to plan their stories and ensure they had paragraphs with onomatopoeia, verbs and adjectives. Students then wrote a draft before having their work published so they could add matching illustrations.
