Well done to the bookmark competition winners

Artwork inspired by books and reading

 

We celebrated the excellent Library bookmark competition entries with a morning tea for the artists this week. Ms Harrap thanked everyone who participated in the challenge and commented on the very high quality and standard of the entries. 

 

The bookmark competition is an annual event and with many high quality entries from students this year, it was important that it went ahead as usual despite the difficulties of the lockdown restrictions.

 

A big thank you to Ms Sirec who personally took the entries around to each judge so they could see the originals and place their votes. There were some difficult decisions for the judging panel! Thanks also to Ms Harrap, Ms Stewart and Ms Tripp for their support.  The six winning entries are:

  • Bili Lim-Chapple - Hand drawn dragon, Saphira.  Eragon by Christopher Paolini
  • Evelyn McAdam – Collage and drawing Read, Write, Create; how books and the arts inspire creativity and imagination.
  • Maya Healy - Hand drawn image and quote “To the stars that listen, and the dreams that are answered”… A Court of Thorn and Roses by Sarah J Maas
  • Eliza Borgeest – Drawn and painted the brave main character from Scythe by Neal Shusterman.
  • Isabella Bini – Computer generated image of the Emerald City from the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum

Each winner received a certificate of contribution and a Readings book voucher. 

Well done everyone who participated! Any student who submitted a bookmark can collect their original artwork from Ms Tripp in the library.

If you are looking for holiday reading inspiration our eBooks and audiobooks are a great place to start. There are 3,185 eBooks and audiobooks to browse from in the Wheeler’s eBook library database collection which can be accessed through the John Cain Library webpage.  

 

Open the John Cain Library webpage. Select the link eBooks and Audiobooks or click on the image ‘Discover new worlds in eBooks’ to open the eBook Library.  

 

Sign into the Wheelers eBooks using your Compass ID and password. If you have not signed in with SSO when accessing the John Cain Library page, you will be prompted to sign in to eBooks using your student compass ID and password.

This opens the complete Wheelers eBook and Audiobook collection in one place. You can search for the title you want using the search box or you can browse the different collections by scrolling down and clicking on the collection heading located directly below the start browsing button. This will bring up all eResources in this collection.  You can sort each collection by most popular, new releases, recently added or alphabetically, using the dropdown menu.
