Senior Years
Music Solo Night
On Thursday 20 September, Year 11 and 12 Music students performed their second summative solo assessment concert. The concert was held from 6:30-8:30pm in the Middle Years performance space and in addition to the music, the night also featured finger food and drinks.
Approximately 50 guests attended to hear the talents of the musicians, amongst whom ranged a diverse selection of instrumentalists playing a wide variety of styles. Christie Bond performed the beautiful Irish Ashokan Farewell on the violin, Eduard Munsayac performed the passionate Tango Romantico on the piano and Jessica Priebbenow gave us the funky Bob Mintzer tune, ‘Funk it Up’ on the alto saxophone. A stand out performance was given by Matthew Kaczmarek who performed the mysterious 70s spy film inspired piece ‘Snake Eater’ on the electric guitar.
All the students performed well, so a big thank you must go to Mr Wooldridge and the instrumental teachers who helped them to prepare. Thanks also to Andrea O’Donnell for catering, Mrs Freund for coordinating the food and drinks and Thomas Doan, Year 12 student for taking photos.

Year 10 Outdoor Education
On Monday 17 September, twenty-two students along with Miss Facchin and Mr Otto-Williams set off on a three day camping expedition to Kuitpo Forrest. Over the three days, students were challenged out of the comfort zones and pushed to their limits during rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering, mountain biking and surfing activities. This camp provided students the opportunity to prepare and cook their own meals on Trangia cooking stoves, assemble and sleep in a tent and demonstrate leadership roles amongst the group. Teamwork, perseverance and courage were the strong themes demonstrated throughout the expedition, making it a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all.
“I really loved mountain biking through Kuitpo Forest and learning how to surf at Middleton. The hard effort was definitely worth it when we could finally stand upright on the surf boards and could surf across the wave. It gave us a sense of accomplishment.” Liya R
“The Outdoor Ed camp was an eye opener that allowed us to widen our horizons. We took risks that we would not normally have the opportunity to. It’s not everyday that you simply decide to go into a forest in the middle of nowhere with no phone or comforts from home. Taking these risks will result in many benefits in the future.” Amish B
“Rock climbing was a good opportunity for me to push myself. My class encouraged me and supported me as I was climbing. I enjoyed surfing at Middleton beach as it was a new experience that challenged me.” Briarn D
“I really enjoyed the whole camp experience; the activities were fun and exciting. I loved cooking rice on the Trangia, rock climbing and mountain biking.” Ricky N

Maths Experience
On Tuesday 28 of August, we both were honoured to be invited to attend the UniSA Connect Year 10 Mathematics Experience. It was a day filled with various activities, which challenged us and exposed us to different applications of Mathematics. The day began with an introduction from one of the head Mathematics lecturers at the university. He explained how Mathematics progresses from a high school level into Uni and just how useful it can be in so many different aspects of life and in so many different careers. We were able to listen to many people about how Mathematics is used in their everyday jobs and how it has taken them places. It was interesting to learn more about what other people do and the different jobs which are available.
Overall, the day was really motivating and helpful. It was also a great opportunity to talk to students our age who have a passion in Mathematics and connect with them and learn more from others. We both would recommend the day to anyone who finds Mathematics interesting, is wondering what careers use Mathematics, or is questioning whether there is any merit in them continuing to study Mathematics in Year 11 and 12.
