PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

The generosity and kindness of this community never ceases to amaze me.

Over the isolation period I had families bring us cakes, fruit, send cards and emails of thanks, support and encouragement. It really provided strength during such challenging times.

This week a group of families collected money and presented us with Morning Tea on Tuesday – as a sign of thanks and recognition for the tremendous efforts of the staff.  They left a note which read: “Thank you Teachers for all of your efforts during these trying times”.

With much appreciation to parents I say “thank you” on behalf of the leadership team, teaching and support staff for your considerate and kind support. I have become very aware that in times of adversity most people shine!

This is one of those examples – I really could not be more proud of the efforts of this community. My teachers and support staff have worked tirelessly to engage children in their learning remotely. It has not been easy and I am glad we are back in person.

All of this was possible because we all worked together, Parents, Staff and Students. The strength of our community is very apparent.

As the Principal I could not be more proud and grateful!

STUDENTS RETURN

So thrilled to have the school community back together.

Years, 7, 8, 9 and 10 returned this week and the school was abuzz with noise, laughter and joy.

The Year 12s last week had a glorious week – as a ‘senior campus’. They enjoyed the privilege of casual dress, concerts, volleyball and netball competitions, a scavenger hunt and access to the 7/11 at recess as well as lunch. They created wonderful memories. Never before have they had the campus to themselves.

Despite their constant requests of keeping everyone else away forever – we thankfully now have returned to some form of normal!

I have missed the “cacophony that is school”.  With only a few weeks left of Term 2 we will make the most of the time we have together as we practice good hygiene and social distancing.

Can I please just remind everyone that if students are unwell they should stay home.

FACILITIES

During the ‘home schooling period’ much productive work has been undertaken.

The Year 10 lockers have all been replaced with new lockers. These are double lockers – the same as the VCE lockers and very impressive.

I hope the Year 10s look after them and enjoy the extra space for their belongings. All students are expected to have a combination lock to keep things secure.

We also undertook extra painting, gardening and cleaning. The drainage was repaired also.

The school is looking beautiful and indeed was ready for everyone to return.

I want to thank School Council, Mr Kan and the Facilities department for their efforts.

UNIFORM DELAYS

I want to apologize for the issues with the purchase of uniform during the COVID period.

Given the limitations of numbers in the shop it was indeed difficult for parents and students. Long delays were frustrating. We are looking to improve this matter.

I want to thank Ann Manson and the other staff for their incredible work to assist all.

Please know we are being very lenient with uniforms for a few weeks while people get their supplies.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

MCK50

The McK50 continues to go from strength to strength with over 400 participants embarking on the penultimate week of the community challenge.

Students and their families have shown a high level of dedication and camaraderie through Google Classroom posts, the communal physical activity logbook entries, and the sharing of workout photos to the @mckinnonscpe instagram account, all of which has helped us connect as we live remotely.

One of the highlights of The McK50 has been the strava art challenge. This gave students the opportunity to complete the inaugural virtual school cross country, as well as demonstrate their artistic flair by creating GPS art. We had some amazing entries sent in for this challenge, congratulations again to all our prize winners.

With just over two weeks remaining of the challenge, it is never too late to start getting active. Any member of the McKinnon community wanting to still get involved. For more info please contact us via email: mck50group@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au
