Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

ENROLMENTS FOR 2018 NOW OPEN. PLEASE COLLECT AN ENROLMENT FORM FROM THE OFFICE. OPEN DAY 15 MARCH AND 10 MAY. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.

I wish to take this opportunity to say how grateful I am to classroom teachers who gave up their time to meet with parents on Monday evening. We believe this meeting is a valuable exercise in developing a positive partnership and gaining knowledge about children’s needs. We are a Visible Learning school, which aims to broaden skills and knowledge of children’s strengths and challenges. By your involvement at meetings such as this, we will be able to collect information so that we can continue to provide for all children's needs. Together, as partners we can assist the learning and teaching and provide valuable experiences to assist us in delivering quality and inspired learning.

On Sunday, we gathered to celebrate the Feast day of our parish which coincided with the Beginning of the School Year Mass and the Commissioning of Student Leaders. My sincere thanks to Fr. Gerry Medici for making it such a memorable event. Thanks must also go to the many parents who attended. Congratulations to the following student leaders for 2017;

Our first meeting of the Parents and Friends will be held on TUESDAY 21st February at 7.00pm. All parents are very welcome to attend and hear about our plans for the year. The Parents and Friends is a very important organisation and has, as its core aim, to raise funds for the school. These funds are then used in a variety of ways to support the teaching and learning at St. Mary’s. Every cent will be spent on your children. Therefore, I encourage you to be involved. If babysitting prevents you from attending, feel free to bring children along. A handbook outlining the roles of the P & F is available at the office or feel free to speak to me at any time. WE ESPECIALLY INVITE NEW PARENTS PLEASE MAKE THE EFFORT TO COME ALONG.

ENROLMENTS

Enrolments are now Open. If you have a child starting school next year, can you please call into the office to collect an Enrolment Form and return it to us no later than 14th March. It is important that we have all our siblings enrolled so that we can determine the number of places available. Thank you for your cooperation.

SCHOOL APP

Thanks to the families that have downloaded our School App.  If you haven’t already done so please download it from the App store (Apple) or from Google Play (android phones) and search for ‘St Mary’s Primary School Thornbury.’ Remember to allow push notifications for alerts.

A reminder that absentee notes can be completed via the App.

The app will replace paper newsletters. Newsletters can also be received via email. Please contact the office with your email address if you not have already done so. There will be no printed newsletters. When downloading the newsletter via the app, you will need a user name (parents) and a password (parents).

SCHOOL PHOTOS

Next Wednesday 22 February professional photos will be taken at school. Children from Prep to Year 6 must be in full SUMMER UNIFORM which includes black shoes. Runners are not part of the school uniform and are not to be worn on non PE days. Please, no PE uniform on the photo day. Photo envelopes will be sent home shortly. 

PREPS MUST BE AT SCHOOL NEXT WEDNESDAY.

Reminder, that next Thrsday and Friday (23 & 24 Feb) are School Closure Days. Before and After care will operate providing there are sufficient numbers, so please book in your children asap.
