Principal's Report

Winter is Coming...
The winter winds are whipping around the playground, signalling the arrival of winter. The Sunsmart period finished at the end of April, but now we need parents to ensure children are rugged up and ready for the winter weather.
We try to ensure that children get their outdoor time, even when the weather is a little inclement. On rainy days, we have a wet day policy where children are kept inside at playtime or lunchtime. However, whenever it’s possible, we try to get them outside for a bit of exercise and running around.
We don’t keep them in just because it's a bit cold or windy. To that end, we expect children to come to school with appropriate clothing. Remember that school windcheaters and fleecy tops need to be the official uniform top with the school logo. The jacket over the top of that though, e.g. a rain jacket, can be of any kind just so long as the children are protected from the elements. We also have a great school beanie available.
Mother's Day Stall
Thanks so much again to our amazingly hard-working PFA for the Mothers Day stall. I’m sure our mums enjoyed the little gifts from their children and I hope the gifts came with lots of love and appreciation and a yummy breakfast.
Myuna Farm
How lucky were our prep students who headed off to Myuna Farm this week. Considering what the weather might have been, they did really well to avoid any rain. It was a windy and chilly day but the students returned with big smiles on their faces after their farm adventure.
The teachers too, returned with very positive feedback about the children and their behaviour. Thanks so much to Ashlee Hilliard for all of her organisation of the excursion. Thanks also to the whole Prep team for giving the children such a wonderful learning experience.
Finally, thanks to the many parents who went along on the excursion to help with supervision. We certainly value your support and I hope that you all had a great day too.
Police Patrols
Some parents have asked about the reason for recent police patrols around the school. Whilst I have no direct knowledge of police operational priorities, I can only assume that the patrols are in response to the many concerns about traffic safety around our school. Many parents have been fined or warned about their traffic behaviour around the school and we continue to get complaints from neighbours. Whilst the school has not requested the police patrols, I am pleased that they are around to ensure that our students are safe from the dangerous and careless behaviour of some drivers in our community.
District Cross Country
Well done to our Cross Country team who headed off to the District Cross Country competition last week. We had a large number of students who managed to make it into the top 10 in their age group and will go on to the next level of zone competition. There were many fabulous individual efforts but the whole team effort was most pleasing. We finished 3rd overall, our best result ever and in one age division, I believe we filled about 5 of the first 7 places. Good luck to all of those students who move on to the next level!
Police Prep Visit
In another great opportunity for the Preps to learn about the world around us, the police will be visiting to speak to classes about the wonderful work that the police do. They are such an important part of our community and it will be wonderful for the Preps to have a positive and up close experience with some local officers.
Enrolment Information Evening
Don't forget, for those that are enrolling for 2016, that we have our enrolment information evening this Thursday evening. The evening is for anyone from Prep to 6 who might be enrolling for 2016, with lots of general information about our school.
The enrolment evening begins at 7pm and we are aiming to finish by 8pm.
Education Week and Open Evening
Coming up next week is Education Week. This is a state-wide celebration of the excellence of state government schooling and this year the focus is on Mathematics.
On Wednesday of Education Week, we will be having an Open Evening, with classrooms open for families to visit from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. The classrooms will have maths activities in which families can get involved and a passport for you to fill out to enter a competition. I hope to see you all there!
