Principal's Message
Recently two of our female staff members and a female Board member attended the Lasallian Women’s Symposium in New Zealand. The symposium was open to all women who are associated or involved directly in Lasallian Education. The participants came from far and wide e.g. USA, Pakistan, PNG, Australia etc. The gathering comprised some 220 participants. The representatives from St Bede’s College made an excellent contribution and enjoyed the occasion.
The symposium highlighted the valuable contribution that women make to Lasallian education across the world. Together we work for the good of youth in the various ministries available to us. The contribution of women is significant and valued. At St Bede’s College the contribution by women on the staff is valued and appreciated.
I am very conscious that 3 of the Deputy Principals of the College are women and a number of others hold middle management positions.
The Feast of the Assumption which has a focus on Mary, the Mother of Jesus, once again highlights the significant role of women in the Christian Story. Last Tuesday, the College assembled to celebrate the Eucharist on this special day in the life of the Catholic community. This celebration brings to mind the many great women of our Christian story whose role was to further the message of Jesus.
The contribution of great women like St Calare, St Therese, and our own Mary McKillop are just a few of the many great women. It is interesting that in the life of De La Salle it was a woman companion who encouraged him not to give up on his work of working with the poor and the teachers of that time who were poorly educated.
At our celebration on Tuesday, Br David Hawke, the Head of the Brothers addressed the College community. It was good to have Br David present as we also blessed and acknowledged the second group of Outreach students who will be working in Thailand over the September holiday period.
