MIDDLE SCHOOL ART

Middle School Art has gotten off to a wonderful start!

Year 6 are designing and making a ceramic candle holder which when ‘lit’ will shine light from within through ‘holes’ that are the shape of each student’s passion. The concept is that we can shine for Jesus, allowing Him to use us where ever we are. Some have chosen their sporting club, others their family. It has been great to hear the ways these students want to shine for Jesus!

Year 7 visited the National Gallery of Victoria on the 19th of February and were astonished by the highly contrasting designs and mathematical artworks of Excher X Nendo. In class they have drawn Mobius Strips with unique ‘creatures’ walking along them in an infinity loop.

Year 8 are astounding me with their commitment to a new project – Monochromatic Self-Portraits!

As each student becomes more familiar with Schoolbox we will add pictures and other information about what we are up to!

CHIHULY CHANDELIER COMPETITION

How many bottles did it take to produce this Chilhuly Chandelier?

Thats the question posed to all students. The top two closest guesses will win a Rebel Sport and Koorong voucher respectively.

Entry forms are available from each homeroom and the number of entries flowing in has been tremendous. Competition closes end of term, so get your entry in now.

(Dale Chihuly is a contemporary American glassblower whose large-scale installations can be found on permanent display in institutions worldwide. His works are considered to possess outstanding artistic merit in the field of blown glass.)

YEAR 7 CRUISE INTO NGV

Year 7 absolutely LOVED their experience at the NGV. They took their Visual Diaries and sketched away as they journeyed through the Nendo interpretation of M.C Escher’s work. From light shows to dramatic installations, video and interactive art, each student came away inspired to use mathematical tessellations and optical illusions in their own art. Look out for their Mobius Strips and Cabbage Chairs!
