Assistant Principal's Report

Yarra Valley Psychology and Kilsyth Primary School
It is great pleasure that we announce a newly developed relationship with Yarra Valley Psychology Group and Kilsyth Primary School.
This independent company is providing psychological services to students and families from Kilsyth Primary School on site.
The need for psychological services to be provided at schools has increased over the years as knowledge of mental health complexities has become more common. This can often be an expensive endeavour, and limits in the Medicare funding system can make it difficult attain. YVP is proud to be able to offer psychological services to Kilsyth’s school, students, and parents at no cost to the school or families.
By working directly out of the school, the YVG are able to maximise effectiveness of the psychological support and work collaboratively with the teaching and school welfare staff. Providing therapy on site ensures that both the child and the therapist are able to have consistent weekly sessions, whilst allowing the student to be in a space that they are already familiar and comfortable with. Furthermore, many parents struggle to find the time or resources to take their child to specialists, and as such, this service makes it easier for parents to provide therapeutic assistance on the school premises.
The psychologists that work as a part of the YVP schools program are specially selected for the services. Carina Purdea is a qualified Psychologist who has a special interest in children and has worked in various schools and child related settings. She will be providing therapeutic services to the students at Kilsyth every Tuesday. One-on-one counselling is offered to children of all ages. Students are able to see Carina for up to 10 individual sessions.
If you would like to know more or believe that your child would benefit from this service please see me, Sabrina George and I will provide you with all the details.
