Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,
After the term 1 holidays, Easter and ANZAC, we were right back into the swing of things this week with plenty going on around the school.
At different times and for various reasons we have staff on leave and we are fortunate to have a great 'pool' of people who are able to step up during these times. I'd like to welcome to the ACS community, Tamara Leitch (3/4 LC) and Katie Geerings (5/6 LC) who will be with us until the end of the year (at least).
2020 Year 7-10 Information Evening
Our 2020 Year 7-10 Parent Information Evening was held yesterday, with both current and new families attending.
Led by Alison Balchan (Leading Teacher - Secondary School) and Evan families heard about our school in general, our values and the culture we are developing; as well as more specifics of the various programs, supports and opportunities that exist and will continue to develop as our school grows and evolves.
Families had an opportunity to tour the school and ask questions relating to their child and their individual needs.
In 2020, the Secondary School component of ACS will grow to take in students up to year 10 and further build on pathway opportunities through to post school employment and/or study.
NAPLAN Coming up
From May 14th to 16th, students in Years 3, 5,7 and 9 will sit for the NAPLAN assessment.
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in the second full week in May.
The outcomes of these assessments will be used to support staff and students in understanding what students know, what they need to know next and how we can help them achieve this.
Mother's Day Stall - 9 & 10/5/19
PACC have organised for lovely gifts to be available for purchase on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May for $5 each if students are wishing to buy for Mother's Day. The stall will be open in the Library from 9-11am each morning and Learning Communities will be given the opportunity to browse and purchase during that time. Students are asked to bring $5 in an envelope on Thursday 9/5/19. Extra gifts may be purchased 10/5/19 if still remaining.
Student Representative Council
The SRC met for the first time yesterday and they went around to all of the Learning Communities and introduced themselves. The School Captains used this opportunity to drop off the Student Voice Boxes. Each Learning Community have their own Student Voice Box.
The purpose of these boxes are to promote student voice across the school. This term we would like students thoughts on how to improve ‘showing CARE towards each other and the school community’. Students can write their suggestions down on paper and drop these into the Student Voice Boxes.
We also included the Expectation Matrix for you to have a look at as we are focusing on the value of CARE this term. This covers the inside and outside expectations. A good idea might be to discuss how each of these expectations might look like in your home.
Have a happy and safe weekend everyone.

Principal
