Victorian State Athletics Championships

On Monday 29th of October, four elite performers from BRPS competed at the SSV Victorian State Athletics Championships. The event was held at Albert Park Athletics Track for the top performers in the state.

Congratulations to Ollie T, Archie O'R, Henry S and Arki B who competed hard and represented themselves and their school admirably. As you can imagine, all of the parents of these children are beyond proud of the boys' preparation, and determination to compete at this level and maintain composure and focus to race with everything they had.  BRPS is also very proud of the boys' efforts, which are described in detail below!

Arki B

  • 100 m
  • High Jump

Started the day off with great speed in the 100 m heats to qualify for the finals.  Behind a very fast group, Arki finished the final in 7th place.

Arki had a tough draw with the High Jump which he started, and then was pulled away to run the anchor leg the heats of the 4x100 relay, and then returned to his high jump competition clearing more heights.  Ultimately, Arki's jumps earned him a fantastic 4th place finish.

Archie O'R

  • 80 m hurdles

Archie is a hurdle expert!  Archie was the fastest qualifier from the heats going into the final.  He ran an amazing race and earned a silver medal!!

Henry S

  • 800 m
  • 1500m

Henry ran a personal best time to earn the silver medal in a record breaking race.  Near the end of the day...30 minutes before the 4x100 relay, Henry also ran a personal best time in the 1500m race and, again earned the silver medal, just behind another record breaking finisher.  Thanks to these results Henry has been invited to the State of Victoria Track and Field team and will compete both events at Nationals on the weekend of 23-26 November.

This awesome team ran a record breaking time, literally, in the qualifying heats to earn a place in the finals.  Unfortunately, the boys relay from Brighton Grammar had a slightly better time, so they now hold the record!  In the finals, our Black Rock boys raced hard and earned the silver medal.  It was a fantastic and exciting race to end the day for Black Rock.

Thanks

Thank you to the Tritton family who donated the very sleek running singlets for the team to compete in.

The team were also thrilled with the support of the Grade 4 teachers, classmates and parents, watching the boys run through the School Sport Victoria live stream throughout the day.  The boys felt the love and support, which made the event even more special.

Go Yachts!!!
