Music Count Us In 2018

Today we sang along with 700,000 other students around Australia celebration music education in schools!! WOW!! What beautiful voices we have here at BRPS singing together with the other 3,000+ schools joining in with the celebrations today. Some schools even performed at Parliament House in Canberra!

What better way to celebrate music education in schools than to sing a song written by school students. A song recorded by students. A song written for all school students. The message and program is one that has gained steady traction and this is our third involvement since singing "Paint you a song" in 2014 and "Let it play" in 2016.

A particular thanks to all of the staff and parents helping our students learn 'One Song'. I have heard that it is a regular on the morning playlist to school and many have found it on Spotify.

Bayside Dance Off 2018

While the Talent Show is complete, we're already looking ahead to this year's Bayside Dance Off! It is hosted by Hampton Primary School and is a wonderful celebration of all things choreography and creative dance among students. Below is some information about the dance off. Our auditions will be held over 2 weeks beginning Wednesday November 5th. We choose 1 group from each age group category as outlined below to represent BRPS at the finals! The final is held on Friday December 7th at Hampton PS.

WHO: Students from your school

AGAINST: Students from other Bayside State Primary Schools

TIME: 2 minute max music.

GROUP SIZE: minimum 2-maximum 6 members

3 age group categories:

  • Prep, 1 and 2
  • Year 3 and 4
  • Year 5 and 6

Students must have choreographed the dance themselves with no adult input.

Marks will be given for 3 categories:

  1. Choreography- how original are the dance moves etc
  2. Costumes- how creative are the costumes.
  3. Stage presence

Start thinking about your group and making up your dance and costumes! Make sure there's no adult assistance in the choreography!

If you'd love to be involved in watching some of the dances as a judge, please get in touch with Mr Murnane.

Choir diary dates in December

The Choir and Junior Choir are excited about our upcoming performances and excursion to the O'Brien Ice Skating arena in Docklands.  The performance date is Friday, December 14th. A Compass event will be up in the near future.

If you're a parent of a choir or junior choir singer and would like to join us on the O'Brien Arena excursion, some spare tickets and bus seats are available. Please see Mr Murnane for more details.

Some additional diary dates are Wednesday December 5th 6:30-8:30pm at the Black Rock House carols. Our continuous involvement there is a wonderful tradition. We will have a combined junior and senior choir for this performance! Exact performance time and songs to be advised.

The second performance is another combined choir on Friday December 7th. The retailers in Black Rock Shopping Village, along with Bayside Council and Rotary Club are currently organising a Christmas Festival event. We are hoping to secure the 6:00-6:15pm time slot.

This is a community event.

It is anticipated that Bluff Road from the roundabout to Karrakatta Street, will be closed to traffic and we will be erecting a stage for entertainment.  There will be store holders, rides and on street activities provided. Maybe even a wondering Santa (if we have been good all year).

Keep those rehearsals full so that we can let our beautiful voices flourish on the ice! Choir rehearsals are Tuesday lunch time and Junior Choir Thursday lunch time.
