Advice from Hugo

An interesting persuasive piece by Hugo R, Year 4F
Our Year 4s have been exploring persuasive writing texts and my attention was caught by one piece in particular, written by Hugo R.
Please have a read and enjoy Hugo's thoughts on parents and devices. It is also very important to note that there is some creative license in this piece and Hugo's parents are strict about device use! In fact, many of Hugo's points have been the topic of conversation at home with regards to the negative social effects of devices/ social media. Enjoy!
ADULTS SPEND WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR PHONES!
Hey, have a look around you. What do you see? Adults just looking on their phones like ZOMBIES. Help me to stop adults going on their devices and ignoring their kids!
Firstly, adults don’t talk to their children as much nowadays. For instance, if a child now asks their mum or dad ‘what's the weather today?’ and they were on their phones they would probably be ignored. This makes kids feel bored and ignored! Parents are more interested in their phones than their children. This makes children sad because the parents aren't listening to them. Parents are way too antisocial which makes kids feel lonely and can affect their future and their emotions.
Secondly, adults make children feel left out. Some parents like Instagram, but at some stage when they’re going through photos they might start laughing or even crying ,so normally you would ask what's the matter? But they just ignore you and continue laughing. Half the time children are asking a question but parents don’t listen. This will make the children stop talking so then most of the children will start to get depressed and sad.
Lastly, adults are not showing good role model behaviour whatsoever. When the children get older they are probably going to do the same thing. I just want to say even if you were walking down the street and a kid walked past and you were on your phone it’s still not being a good role model. So the chances of everyone being sad and depressed in the future is probably about 65%. Phones are eventually going to take over the world and if they do we will all be miserable. It will be all thanks to Samsung and Apple. The world will get sad, everyone will be texting, children will keep being ignored and the world will be taken over by devices.
CONCLUSION: Help me stop adults using iPads, phones and other devices so much, so the world doesn't get taken over by devices! You can make a change!
Well done Hugo! It certainly made me stop and think,
Mrs Moore
