Being Well at Magill

Happy Holidays!!!

Hi all,

It has been a long term but one in which our school and community have demonstrated a lot of strength and fortitude during difficult times. As we all relax and recharge in readiness for Term 2, I am sure many of our children will be accessing online games, chats, YouTube and so on.

Here at Magill school, we have been working hard to up-skill all students in Cyber-safety awareness. As such, this year we have:

a) introduced an advanced internet web filter, and

b) a new cyber safety curriculum for teachers to access.

a) SWiFT has been designed to offer advanced internet web filtering and cyber welfare, giving teachers and wellbeing leaders tools to support student engagement and wellbeing. The alert feature of the SWiFT portal provides schools with a proactive and preventative approach to support student cyber safety and wellbeing by giving greater visibility of a student’s online activities.

b) We have signed up for the Cyber Safety Project Curriculum which is designed to educate children from Reception to Year 6 in all aspects of cyber safety. Its curriculum is underpinned by four themes:

Responsibility:

Proactively maintain privacy and security

Integrity:

Demonstrate respectful relationships and acceptable social protocols online

Strength:

Take control, self-regulate and seek help when things go wrong

Empathy:

Create a safe community for everyone online.

What can parents do at home to further educate their children on cyber safety? Go to the e-safety commissioner. You will find a parent page full of excellent advice on how best to educate, protect and support your child to navigate the online world.
