Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Welcome to the last week of school, we have so many great events planned over the next few days and we are so excited to see families attend some of these! With planning week last week, the teachers were so proud of how well students adapted to the changes in routine.

In Literacy, we continued to focus on summarising while reading both fiction and non-fiction texts. Students explored a range of text types including fact files, fables, narrative stories and First Nation’s texts and were able to summarise the main message the author was trying to convey as well as key events. This might be something you would like to ask your child about when you are reading with them at home!

During Writing, students worked hard to reflect on the term and what they had achieved. They produced some impressive term reflections that you will be able to see on Seesaw this week. The teachers are so proud of the way that students are editing their work, using resources in the room such as the VCOP wall, Golden Words charts and any other things they think will help them!

There were lots of hands-on materials in our Mathematics sessions this week with students completing the process of surveying their class to collect some data. They used this data to create a series of graphs including a bar graph, a stacked bar graph and even a pie chart. You can also look forward to seeing these on Seesaw this week!

During our Wellbeing sessions, we have focused on gratitude - filling our own jars with all of the things we are grateful for. Students enjoyed being able to share with their peers the special things in their lives that they are appreciative of. During our focus on First Nations, we have been working on a shared display outside the library along with the Foundation students. Each class had the opportunity to create a different element of our illustration - the sun, leaves, trees, sky, clouds or land. Together we are able to make a really special connection to culture.

As we get closer to our Guided Inquiry showcase, students have been working hard to add information about where their families come from and what cultures they connect to. We can not wait for another fantastic week of school, have a wonderful week!
