Term 1 Week 11 2022

5/6 Beechworth Camp

Our camp to Beechworth was amazing but also a very challenging experience as we navigated COVID safe procedures. Unfortunately, some of our students couldn't join due to isolation requirements or COVID or were symptomatic. Camp is one of those experiences that staff work very hard on to make sure all students can attend so this camp was always going to be a challenging from that point. The students on camp had jam packed days and it was reported by the camp staff and people in the community how respectful and well mannered the students form MPRPS were.

Year 5/6 teachers are in Planning Day for next term, today and  apart from planning for an amazing Term 2 they are thinking of other events that could be used to 'make up' the camp experience missed by some students eg: an excursion or incursion.

Events this Week

We are excited to be looking forward to -

  • Guided Inquiry Showcase - Wed Apr 6
  • Colour Fun Run - Thursday Apr 7
  • Family Breakfast, Easter Raffle, Easter Hat Parade - Friday Apr 8

Assembly & Pleasant Snacks

Well done to our 3/4 students for taking on the roles at our assembly and Pleasant Snacks while the 5/6 leaders were off on camp. Our students demonstrated a lot of bravery, teamwork and leadership when presenting to their 3/4 peers and the Junior School. We are so proud of their enthusiasm to help out! A special shout out to these students for their role at assembly:

Can you help with Foundation Dress Ups/Costumes?

Foundation are looking for donations of clothing that could be used in their play-based learning areas. These items do not necessarily need to be ‘costumes’, but items like hats, scarves or jackets that could be used in the classroom. The current imaginative play settings are a vet clinic, hospital, tool workshop, pizza shop, cafe and an ice-cream shop. Any laundered second hand items that you have can be brought to the thank you in advance!

Colour Fun Run

The big day is coming! So far we have raised over $9000 to go towards a Gaga Pit for our playground which was decided by our SRC.

What is Gaga Ball?

Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Dubbed a kinder gentler version of dodge ball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, everyone gets a serious workout.

Gaga Pit

There is still time to register and raise money for our school by visiting plantadifference.com.au. For every $20 raised for MPPRS, students can choose to plant a tree or coral in either the Great Barrier Reef or Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. We are also looking for parent/carers to help on the day. Please scan the QR code if you are able to help.

Investigate, Create, Express

We are looking for volunteers from our school community to run creative and explorative groups for our Senior School Investigate, Create and Express Program this year.

Please take the time to sit down with your child to complete the Google Form together and express areas of interest.

Any questions please contact the school office, Emily Richardson, Megan Campbell or Emma Honan.

Parent Phonogram Program

We are excited to run our Parent Phonogram Program in person this year. The three sessions will help you to understand our whole school Reading and Writing program and learn more about the way we teach your child to read and write.

These sessions are particularly valuable for Foundation parents and we also highly recommend kinder and school families new to the school to attend the program. A notification was sent out to Foundation families last week. If there are other families interested in attending please contact Reception. We ask that those attending commit to attending all three sessions as each session leads into the next. Unfortunately, the course is designed for adults and is therefore not suitable for students or younger siblings to attend.
